Ironically after all the hoopla in FB , local media etc. when I drive around town I only see a tiny number of flags around and this is great. People do not give a shit for pride about nothing. I am much more inclined to respect people who don’t show me their personal flags than someone who is waving it in my face. The American flag is what everyone should respect and embrace. Any other “pride” flags can be flown in private.
Yesterday, I heard they are raising “the flag” at RHS. I think this is discriminatory , the flag show be flown in middle schools and why not in elementary as well. I won’t be surprised if these people ask for it next year. A big , hearty FU to these jerks.

  1. As a heterosexual, I feel bullied by this aggressive action by the village and the gay community.
I demand that RW provide a Safe Space exclusively for use by heterosexuals.

  2. You know, it’s attitudes like the one expressed above that made being a gay kid in Ridgewood pretty difficult for me. Those attitudes percolate down to the students. The smallest, most innocuous gesture of inclusivity — raising a flag, for instance — can make a world of difference for a child who doesn’t know if how they feel is okay.

  3. Why is the Gay flag placed in front of the Monument and bust of American Revolutionary war hero veteran Brigadler General Abraham Godwin in Van Neste Park? The Monument is a tribute to Abraham Godwin and early Village history when it was known as Godwinville. The location of a Gay flag in front of the historical Monument was a poor choice.

  4. “J” tell me/us about your experiences growing up gay in Ridgewood. I’d like to know. I also grew up in Ridgewood (and still live here) but am a straight guy, so I don’t know what you experienced. I am hoping it was mostly good.

  5. WEDNESDAY JUNE 14 is FLAG DAY – COMMEMORATE IT TO FLY THE OFFICIAL U.S. AMERICAN STARS AND STRIPES FLAG. I am proud to fly the USA Flag everyday and around my house!

  6. Why is there a GAY flag being flown at the BOE Ridgewood HS athletes field? Taxpayers did not vote for that. What’s wrong with flying the OFFICIAL AMERICAN FLAG on BOE taxpayer funded property?? The Ridgewood BOE has banished Christmas in schools, but now flys a GAY flag?

  7. You know, it’s attitudes like the one expressed by imposing a gay flag on the community that made being a straight kid in Ridgewood pretty difficult for me. Those attitudes percolate down to the students. The in your face bullying and demand of gay acceptance — rather forced celebration of the gay lifestyle lest you be ostracized — can make a world of difference for a child who doesn’t know if how they feel is okay.

  8. THIS:
The Ridgewood BOE has banished Christmas in schools, but now flys a GAY flag?
    .
Let’s FULLY UNDERSTAND who is the BULLY and whom is BEING BULLIED.
