Reader says Ridgewood Police Presence at Candle Light Vigil caused more tension

"Anti Hatred/Anti Violence" Candlelight vigil held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church

Ridgewood Police Chief Jacqueline Luthcke personally supervised all uniformed and plainclothes officers who were assigned to provide security at an “Anti Hatred/Anti Violence”

Chief of Police supervises the Police Department at the vigil?? What could possibly happen in a vigil with 50-100 people where all think alike?! Why dramatize a simple event and in the process cause more tension than necessary? Ironically the event is supposed to ease tensions.

  1. Did they fill out the proper paperwork for permit. And to the village manager this is more overtime for police department now. Are we going to have these demonstrations now every week. No went to the overtime want to $600,000 last year, when is this going to stop

  2. Our Police Chief attends many of the gatherings in Ridgewood. it is a sign of respect for the purpose of the gathering as well as a means to assure that there is no interruption from individuals with violently opposing views. The Police are definitely not there to frighten individuals but to protect them. We certainly don’t need an incident of car into crowd here in Ridgewood.

  3. The police are there doing their jobs For crying out loud, let’s not be critical of the great job they all do.

  4. In the future have all the events on vets field where it safe

  5. Yes what I would do is have all the vents on the field or in the parking lot for maximum security and protection. No marching in the streets. Too dangerous, too many screwballs out there. And then use firetrucks at the entrances for maximum-security, because they’re on call . The problem is who was paying the overtime.is it the ones that hold the permit, all the town.

  6. good question , who is going to pay the safety bill. because how this looks we are going to have a lot of these event’s . we need to come up with a plan , or call in the county police.

  7. The event was on private property at the church. It was very intentionally not held on public property.

The police were clearly there to protect the crowd not to keep the crowd from rioting. I do agree though that this event was too close to a busy road. It would have been remarkably simply for someone to drive a car right into the speakers. The back parking lot would have been safer although less visible.

  8. How is it that Ridgewood police add tension? The only way you would think that is if you have bought into the big lie of the left. But then again, you thought holding candles and singing kumbaya actually helped anything ever. There are no police on the commune! Pass the avocado toast.

  9. This is all bullshit people just jumping on the bandwagon him, and he and didn’t give a fuck. That’s why I’m back in my kitchen cooking dinner for my family. Not ordering Domino’s
