It was Village Manager Roberta Sonenfeld’s excitement in describing this horrific and unnecessary new construction that gave me pause. She sounded just the same when talking about creating the H.R. job (which quickly and quietly segued from part time to full time) for her friend and essentially giving Habernickel Park to her other friend who runs the now-hated Health Barn. The Village Manager should not be so happy about these projects and in each case she had a personal stake in them (not financially, presumably). More and more and more expensive and disruptive construction, partly subsidized by grants to take the sting off (but not nearly enough, if you study the final numbers), was the theme under the Aronsohn years. She remains under his thumb and must be removed, as must Health Barn and the H.R. position, if we are to return to any level of benign stasis.

They lost the election ..we voted for change..time to take control over these boondoggle projects..leave that park surface alone..clean up the benches and spend some money on fall minor tree trimming and some
light cleaning of the monument areas and any grass refurbishment, leave the bricks alone,

Roberta will be telling us it is a CRISIS, Van Neste is falling apart I tell you it is a CRISIS.Follow the money. Someone stands to make big money. Who is doing the ugly concrete sidewalks? Who is doing the $40,000 cheesy fence? Who will build the Vagiannos Pavilion aka the gazebo?Roberta is all wound up about the is project because promises were made. Follow the money!

  1. We don’t need a metal fence either to make the Village square park as unwelcoming as Graydon Park which in past during off summer season was open to pedestrians and village events runs parades& gatherings .

Fences are not welcoming to anyone.its a park people..leave it alone,

  2. All must bow to the queen Bee’s demands.

  3. When and if this new council removes her she always has a job waiting for her aa a maitre d’ at Greek To Me. After all (One hand washes the other)

  4. Tear down the wall……..I mean planters.

  5. Just fire her and get it over with… why drag it out any longer?

  6. Was walking around VN a couple weeks ago, and by that bench at the SE corner of the park there were no less than three empty fifths of Majorska, empty cigarette packs, and a couple broken beer bottles. Whoever made that mess had plenty of time to do it. No cops to roust them, and nobody to clean up after.

You would think that simply cleaning the park would be a step in the right direction, but instead we have $ to enrich some contractor by pulling all the bricks and pouring concrete.

But by all means, blame the teachers for your high taxes.

  7. 1:48 sadly in addition to local kids partying at coffee shop side monuments at VN the ridgewood ave side hosts our homeless and alcohol dependant citizens and visitors. Could in fact be worse look at Rutherford and other train stops. Kids def partying at VN THO

  8. the “blame the teachers” remark make me suspect the veracity of 1:48’s comments…
It looks suspiciously like an NEA shill is trying to inject contract negotiations into a discussion about Van Neste Park…

  9. Did you clean it up 1:48?
…Or did you just walk away

  10. What does “follow the money” mean in this post? Someone(s) always uses that comment.

Are we to believe that someone creates projects just to give contracts to a friend? Sounds far fetched.

What exactly does that commenter mean?

    1. contractors who make donations to political friends

  11. “Ahh Paddy, you should be going to America, you should. I hear the streets are paved with gold, they are”. Well maybe not paved with gold, but they cost as much in Ridgewood.

  12. She is a NJ machine political operative. Look who hired her. Look at her FB page. Her job, as she sees it, is to use whatever control she has in getting funds to the right projects.
