Ridgewood NJ, effective Wednesday, September 11, 2024, the Ridgewood Village Council is no longer requesting any individual who wishes to make a public comment during a Council meeting to publicly reveal their residential street address. The Ridgewood Board of Education has been requested to adopt a similar policy, but has not done so as of yet.

New Jersey’s “Daniel’s Law” was a driving factor in the Council’s decision. [Daniel’s Law was enacted in response to the tragic death of Daniel Anderl, the son of Judge Esther Salas and Mark Anderl. The law prohibits disclosure of the residential addresses of certain persons covered by the law (“Covered Persons”) on websites controlled by New Jersey state, county, and local government agencies.]

  1. No recognition nor thanks to the citizen was provided by the mayor. It’s all about Paul.

  2. Board of Ed just made the same move.

  3. Was archaic and wrong given the fact that this council, espcially Mayor Vagianos, Pam Perron, Siobahn Winograd and Evan Weitz have divided the community because of sports and bullying has occured. Nothing was done to protect residents. This is a small step.

  4. Boyd brought this forward including the case law. Thank you, as always, Boyd.

  5. Vagianos took pleasure it torturing peope who called in, even when they stated where they were from, he would insist on their house # and street address. Even going so far as to interrupt them in mid sentence when they moved past it and started their public comments. He looked like this was actually a strategy and that by interrupting them, he gained some kind of control because he would then throw them off track with what they were trying to say.

  6. Exactly no one’s damn business of your address and even actually your name, if you have a complaint, it’s a complaint and the story they don’t like it too damn bad

  7. Election season
Little man will take credit for it

  8. Many towns have moved away from the mandate. Only zoning boards are requiring it. Vagianos was probably told that he couldn’t get away with it but it was only in light of the fact that it was raised and then it wasn’t contested because they can’t force people to give their home address, rightly so. In light of so much that has happened and how much contention there is around hot topics and lack of control or accountability over bullying whether physical or verbal. It is a relief to have some elements privacy.

  9. There should be a requirement to state that your residency Resident of Ridgewood or otherwise (under penalty of something akin to perjury) to avoid outside agitators from disrupting village business and attempting to enact external control over Ridgewood business.

    1. External control. That is funny. The council does what they want with little to barely any regard for what public citizens have to say. Don’t you hear Vagianos just say thank you, next. Vagianos is the kind of mayor that people think is doing a good job on the surface, probably because they either don’t care or are not paying attention. He could give a hoot because if it doesn’t align with his personal interests, he ain’t gonna do it.

      1. he’s all smiles now and on his best alter boy behavior because he is up for re-election. Not a bold statement to be had. If he could only stay like this or actually go away and leave municipal government, we’d be allright.

  10. The true reason is hiding here. Its going to be a contentious election and now certain people are afraid that the other shoe will drop? When they blasted others about their addresses it was fine, somehow they are concerned now? No one was ever stopped from speaking before this.
