What was shocking to me was when Reverend Jan Philips at the beginning of the public comment session accused the Ridgewood residents who were about to speak as GRANDSTANDING.
My God, Reverend Philips, And you head the Civility Meetings.
The residents who attended and spoke had heartfelt concerns. They love Ridgewood and have a vision for Ridgewood and wanted to make that vision known.
They want to preserve the charming character of Ridgewood. So they took time out of their busy lives to stand in line for hours for the opportunity to express themselves. For the allotted time of FIVE MINUTES.
Jan Philips you accused the residents of not engaging in diaglogue. Please tell me Reverened what you meant by that. Residents are given five minutes to pour their heart out.
What should they do? Tell me. Tell me. Knock on the doors of the council people’s homes and demand a long discussion.
Jan Philips you are a disgrace to organized religion. You make people WANT TO leave the church. And they do.
But believe me MS. Philips, we still believe in God, and the love and tolerance God wants us to have for our fellow beings, the civility that God wants us to show to our neighbors. In spite of you.
Aronsohn’s telling religious leaders from his interfaith group to come say the garage would be great represents a new low even for him.
Its like a Steven King Novel this crew has everyone at each others throats. Part if their plan. First Divide then spend and Build this monstrosity. Just on fire Codes that street will be a danger in case of a church or residence or Garage car fire.Corner too tight for large fire ladder access once direction of street is changed. That alone is a show stopper major town LIABILITY LIKELY UNINSURABLE
AND NEGLIGENT
Sleasy
There are no Reverands in the Society of Friends…so who does she speak for?
I do not know who Rev Philps is. Was she speaking as a resident or as the head of a congregation? What religious group does she represent?
Saying that others were grandstanding does not sound like something a Christian would say.
Preserve the charming character of Ridgewood? Back to horses and buggies?
I was there and did feel like she was belittling me for being there to speak up. Very distasteful to have to listen to her.
I agree, 9:26. She is a very superior, condescending woman. She thinks she is the queen bee. Kind of reminds me of Roberta, in more ways than one.
She was absolutely belittling everyone in the room, making a sweeping generalization that no one had anything of value to say, except of course for her and her boyfriend. What the hell church does she lead? Never going there.
Well some posters claimed that there were a “million” speakers against the garage… that means 998500 people didn’t vote… I’m looking forward to the construct…
Paul if you watch the video you will see it was at lest 80% against ,and only because the mayor rounded up his clergy friends to try to give him a boost
James… then why did the bond referendum pass?
it didnt , watch the video
Father Ron and OLMC have a stake in this garage construction and all the changes that it will bring to the neighborhood.
I still don’t know what Rev Philips was there for – representing her massive congregation (what church?) or was she just a resident and friend of Paul?
Maybe the idea that Father Ron had a large congregation, great platform and influence for his point of view bothers some. Too much respect for OLMC and not enough for Rev Philips’s church. Maybe Rev Philips should earn some respect.
Rev. Jan Philips of the Religious Society of Friends
I meant the non binding vote… yes the bond was shelved at the meeting but why did the non binding resolution pass in the first place?
watch the video , a lot of people felt they were misled by the Mayor
Ridgewood Friends Meeting
Welcome! Also known as Quakers, we are members of the Religious Society of Friends. Our central values include peace, equality, simplicity, and community.
I googled Jan Philips. She is from Ridgewood Friends , Quakers.
The website states that they do not have ministers.
She has mistakenly entered into the world of politics by acting on behalf of 3/5 of the council. The website says that they value “peace, equality, simplicity, and community.”. She needs to get out of politics.
Rabbi Fine doesn’t have a dog in this fight either. His Temple is on Midland. Was he there as a resident? Do they somehow think that residents have some reverance for them and their opinions? I do not.
They we used by the three council members and should be smart enough to back away.
Jan run the “civility” committee lol
Fortunately for Rev Phillips, religious institutions are not democracies. People who don’t agree with you are always so annoying.
