Ridgewood NJ, at the Ridgewood Board of Education meeting on September 12th ,Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Fitts thanked the entire staff for their hard work, which resulted in a positive start to the school year. The Alternative Schedules Initiative will continue to be explored. Staff members met with the K12 Insight team today to review the survey results.

According to the NJEA , “An increasing body of evidence is showing how later school start times are making a difference in students’ lives, including improved educational outcomes and mental well-being. Physicians have been advocating for later start times for more than two decades, and the body of literature linking adolescent sleep with increased student success has only grown in depth and rigor.”

A representative from K12 Insight will be presenting the survey results at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 19, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.

Based on recent research regarding adolescent sleep and student well-being, the district is pursuing a study of possible later start times for students in grades 6-12. As part of this study, parents, staff, 6-12 students, and community members were invited to participate in a survey about this important initiative in May 2022.
