Ridgewood NJ, the Village of Ridgewood debated moving move forward with the purchase of the Ridgewood Elks club , Councilwomen Bernie Walsh objected to the purchase of the Elks Club for Ridgewood Water , at $200,000 over the appraised value plus $500-700 to 1.5 million in renovations for 30 people . Walsh reiterated that the purchase was just for Ridgewood Water.

Walsh went on noting that class “A” and class “B” office space are plentiful in Bergen County and there was no need for such a major under taking . Walsh felt is was just, “not a smart idea at this time”.

Former Mayor Knudsen pushed the idea for consolidation of space as well as the Elks is last contagious piece of property near the Municipal complex creating greater efficiencies  . Mayor Hach wanted confirmation on the renovation estimates because there seemed to be significant disagreement about what was or was not estimated .

  1. They just approved a $140,000 patch to the Village hall roof. Do the math. A full renovation of the Elks club is going to cost probably $2,000,000. Welcome back Jane Reilly!

  2. But I thought it was because Paul called the Elks national organization? I think I heard “follow the money.” Somehow this was going to be money making for developers or Paul??? What happened? Instead it sounds like this is going to be money making for the Elks and money sucking for all of us.

    1. the Village is buying it before developers get their hands on it

  3. So base on that James, then the village should buy every property that comes up for sale so the developers’ don’t get their hands on it.

  4. The question that was not asked last night was what is going to be done with that large space when the water company moves out. I hear the police dept. is making a land grab for that space.

  5. the Village is buying it before developers get their hands on it
    .
… so the village can build a Ginormous Garage or some other special interest initative with our money.
    .
    .

  6. Thats like the excuse going around that this council has to build the garage because if the don’t another council will come in and build one bigger .

  7. And the dumbest comment for today is…….

the Village is buying it before developers get their hands on it.

    Congratulations James.

    1. your comment is proof positive it is correct

  8. sorry bub but Irene Habernickel Family Park and Schedler were also bought by the Village for the same reason

  9. Yes, you are correct James. My comment is proof positive that your comment is the dumbest comment made here today

  10. Efficiencies implies that there will be some non-contiguous (to use the actual English word) space that will be sold. We all know that won’t happen. But hey! Nothing to see here! Just pay attention to the Board of Ed! That’s what the deputy hen house tells us on Facebook!

  11. Not happy with spending money like drunen sailors, but the elks club purchase is a no-brainer. right next to town hall and our main fields and recreation.. Yes, some deviant developer would eye it otherwise.

Stop the stupid garage being built for the new slum development.

  12. People this is not about the money the village has it. Or is it about the water department. It’s about time for the water department to be out of village hall.then it’s easy to sell it. It’s a chess move. And who wins is the police department,
But u didn’t hear it from me. I do more .more information will come soon.
    See you.

  13. 3:09 Your right bub but they were in residential areas with all single family house. The elks club is not.

  14. I think the council are in negations to buy the Brooklyn Bridge at a good price.

  15. Yay ….Bernie takes a stand and she is correct!

  16. Does anyone have a source for fake money? Maybe if we made a visual presentation on how big that amount of money is, the council could understand it better. They appear to be only able to visualize in their minds sums that do not have a large amount of zeros behind them. I was under the impression that the council members were normal people and not among the extremely wealthy in town. I guess I made the mis-assumption that ordinary people could keep track of their money when the council shows it’s only the extremely rich who can count–or even see- the zeros. An unneeded garage and an expensive building that the last I heard the “water company had enough money for the purchase.” I thought that quote was rather interesting as the dispute between towns who think they were overcharged and got court approval to collect has not even been considered as a possible loss of that extra money in repayments demanded by the court. I’m really beginning to wonder if the members of the council can even balance their own checkbooks as they certainly don’t hesitate to spend on bonds for many years in the future and don’t see how this could make it extremely impossible for Ridgewood to balance theirs.
You were elected on the premise that you would only act on things that were good for Ridgewood and reduce costs in every way possible. At this rate you all might have the dubious honor of being the council who threw away the most money in all of Ridgewood’s recorded history during your term on the council.

  17. According to CoStar, a nationally recognized real estate data resource, North Central Bergen County has a 7.2% office vacancy rate which equates to 180,000 square feet of vacant space. The Route 208 Corridor has a 6.7% vacancy rate which equates to 147,400 square feet of vacant space. So there is 327,400 square feet of vacant office space in the immediate vicinity. Ridgewood Water couldn’t successfully negotiate a lease under these conditions?

  18. 7:55 development is current taking pace in the CBD

  19. We would like to know who is paying for this building, is it the water department or is it the taxpayers of the village of Ridgewood. If the water department is paying for it and all the construction to repair the site OK it’s owned by the water utility not the Village of RidgewoodOr is there other scams going on, whoever works for the water department they work for the water utility not the village of Ridgewood. Any one any individual who works with the water department should have no daily dealings with the village of Ridgewood pers or is there other scams going on, whoever works for the water department they work for the water utility not the village of Ridgewood. Any one any individual who works with the water department should have no daily dealings with the village of Ridgewood . I’m at Village residents taxpayer and lawyer. The four towns that the water the I’m telling delivery service too.Like the other post said why does the water utility have missed about the plates on them. They should have utility blades the room by the utility company not the village of Ridgewood right. We would like to know what the F is going on because what we see distilled water bullshit going on from day to day and we are sick of it and we are watching you people.
