the staff of the Ridgewood blog
Ridgewood NJ, Several months ago this blogger caught some grief after getting my e-bike repaired at Westwood Cycle , instead of Ridgewood Cycle . Some posters took it to mean that this blogger had some bone to pick with Ridgewood Cycle . That is simply not true . I just picked up on a slow leak flat after shopping at Trader Joes in Westwood and walked the bike over to Westwood cycle, no conspiracy.

This past week after cruising into the central business district my rear wheel got a case of the “weebly-wobbles” , so I walked the bike over to Ridgewood Cycle for a fix. I had not been to Ridgewood Cycle since my parents bought me a Schwinn 5 speed with a banana seat in the early 70’s when the shop was on the west side of the tracks .
Ridgewood Cycle Shop has been serving Ridgewood and the surrounding community since the 1920’s. Originally located in Wilsey Square, Ridgewood Cycle Shop was purchased by Don McKinnon in 1964. In 1971, Don moved into our current location at 35 North Broad Street. In 1998, Don passed the business to his son Andrew McKinnon who continues the tradition. Andrew’s commitment to cycling is apparent as he has and continues to participate in triathlon’s, marathons, and charity cycling events. For over ten years Andrew has supported and been the captain of Team Ridgewood Cycle in the MS 100 Bike Tour. Team Ridgewood Cycle has raised almost $1,000,000.00 over the years.
The experience was fantastic , knowledgeable friendly staff, who suggested the bike needed a tune-up , which it did . They adjusted the brakes , I mean who needs brakes that’s what helmets are for and the gears now shift like silk . The price was very reasonable (very), The job was done in a matter of hours with follow up emails and texts.

Over the years the shop has the reputation of being populated by the serious cycle set decked out in spandex and yes this is the place for you , but for most of us when you are over 30 you just can’t pull off spandex any more and it is best to spare friends and neighbors . At Ridgewood Cycle spandex or not you are always made to feel welcome.
