Ridgewood NJ, Tropical Storm Isaias was no challenge to the Volunteers of Ridgewood Emergency Services. With all Emergency Services trucks well prepared, ready and staffed with volunteers, the Ridgewood
Emergency Services units responded to over 100 requests for service during the fast-moving storm. In advance of the Isaias, the volunteers had to well prepared at their own homes prior to heading to
headquarters for storm duty. While at headquarters they made sure that all equipment was ready to mitigate the hazards that comes with a tropical storm.
Public Information Officer Bob Krane commented, that the “volunteers must take care of their families and homes well in advance of any storm so that they can serve the public without any worry
about their loved ones at home. The members are away from home for an extended period of time during the storm period while tending to the emergency calls.”
Emergency Services volunteers responded alongside members of the Ridgewood Police and Fire Departments to close roadways that had trees and wires down, making them dangerous or
impossible to pass. Traffic lights were powered with generators provided by Emergency Services. Many hazards that faced the public were mitigated by the combined efforts of Ridgewood
Emergency Services Volunteers, Police Department, Fire Department, Office of Emergency Management and other Village Departments.
Emergency Services Chief Ryan Savaria added that “Together the departments work to make the area as safe as possible for the residents of the Village and its visitors. All are reminded to use
caution when outside, to obey all barricades, caution tape, and keep away from any and all downed trees and wires. Report any emergent conditions via 911. For non-emergencies, call 201-652-3900.“
