Ridgewood NJ, On Sunday, June 14, 2026, the community of Ridgewood, New Jersey, came together in a striking display of patriotism, unity, and remembrance.

Gathering outside the historic Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, the Ridgewood Knights of Columbus Council #1736 hosted a moving Flag Day flag-raising ceremony. The event paid tribute to the enduring symbol of American freedom while honoring local veterans and active-duty service members who have sacrificed to protect it.

A Flag with Historic Integrity

The highlight of the morning was the raising of a brand-new American flag—one that holds deep national significance, having previously flown directly over the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

The ceremonial handoff beautifully bridged generations of military service:

  • The Presentation: The Capitol flag was proudly presented by Knight Victor Amoruso Sr., a retired Senior Petty Officer of the United States Navy.

  • The Raising: It was received by fellow Knight Will Mejia, a retired Staff Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, who hoisted the stars and stripes high above the church grounds in a solemn tribute to America’s armed forces.

A Community United in Reverence

The atmospheric ceremony combined prayer, reflection, and live patriotic music to engage the local crowd.

Father Jakov Vidov opened the proceedings with a formal benediction, leading the community in prayer for local veterans, the immediate Ridgewood neighborhood, and the nation as a whole.

Adding to the emotional weight of the event, Ridgewood High School (RHS) musician Cailin Corcoran provided a powerful live soundtrack. Corcoran played a moving, solemn rendition of “Taps” as the old flag was lowered, followed by a stirring performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” that echoed through the streets as the new flag caught the morning breeze.

The moment served as a beautiful reminder of the community’s renewed devotion to the core ideals of the United States.
