Ridgewood NJ, the Ridgewood Maroons connected on seven 3-pointers in their 61 to 41 victory over 10th-seeded Hackensack in the final round of the North 1, Group 4 Tournament on Monday evening in the Maroons first sectional title since 2005.
After jumping off to a 16-10 lead in the first quarter, three consecutive 3-pointers by Johnny Jackson, Evan O’Reilly and Jordan Rogers jumped the Maroons out to a 25-10 lead. Two Hackensack free throws broke up the 11-0 run and then senior Marcus Phillips hit another 3-pointer extending the Ridgewood lead to 28-14 lead with 2:57 remaining . The Maroons extend their 30-14 halftime lead as J.T Luther hit another a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Defensively, Ridgewood held Hackensack to just three field goals combined in the second and third quarters. After scoring 30 points against Ridgewood in their previous matchup, the Maroons held Hackensack star guard Shawn Reckley to 15 points.
Marcus Phillips led the way for Ridgewood with 18 points while J.T Luther had 13 points. Ridgewood will play again Elizabeth in the Group 4 semifinals on Wednesday.
