Ridgewood Nj, the policy shift by Mayor Paul Vagianos has sparked a heated debate among residents regarding his stance on artificial turf versus natural grass for local sports fields. Once a proponent of natural grass, Vagianos now champions the switch to artificial turf, claiming it’s a necessary response to flooding issues exacerbated by climate change.
A Controversial Change of Heart
In his own words, Vagianos referred to the move to natural grass as a “no brainer.” However, his sudden pivot raises questions. What caused this flip-flop from advocating for cost-effective and environmentally friendly natural grass to endorsing what many view as a fiscally and ecologically irresponsible option?
Residents Raise Eyebrows
Many residents speculate that Vagianos’s change of heart may be linked to campaign contributions from influential sports enthusiasts. Critics argue that he now makes decisions based on obligations to his donors rather than the community’s best interests. This perception fuels concerns about the integrity of his leadership and the potential prioritization of financial backing over sound environmental policies.
The Impact of Big Donors
The suggestion that big-money donors could influence local governance is not new, but it’s particularly troubling in this context. As the community grapples with the implications of these decisions, the question remains: Are we witnessing a mayor who prioritizes promises made to campaign contributors over the health of our environment and the well-being of our residents?
As the debate continues, it’s essential for residents to stay engaged and demand transparency in decision-making processes. After all, the choices made today will shape the community for generations to come.

Vagianos owns a restaurant and lots of real estate, and he is “catering” to the whims of the sports crowd and other people who influence the vote. He is a player and wants to get these projects done like fields and development. Of course he changed his mind from “no brainer” grass to “money drainer” turf and he looks like a flip flopping fool but this is the person that will probably get voted in because he has made some really big promises. This isn’t a well kept secret among people in Ridgewood but it is very misdirected and doesn’t take into account the bigger picture of safety, health and the environment which is concerning.
He IS NOT CONCERNED.
He KNOWS he will be reelected, because we are
RICH and STUPID
Pau-lie Vagianos is a snake oil salesman! Time for Ridgewood to get rid of him.
His position goes to the highest bidder.
Pau-lie is a shyster businessman, not fit to serve the public.
hahaha … because “the public” is so great?

Mayor’s Loyalties: Campaign Contributors Over Community Well-being
Not surprised. #PaulVagianos is bad news and severe liability for Ridgewood.
Or he is weighing the cost, maintenance, and availability issues associated with grass against the benefits? Every option has pros and cons.
Grass has proven to be most economical and it’s being done. Vagianos has promised turf and is trying to fool us into believing we have no choice. It’s BS.
The only way to get him out is to bullet vote KWAK. Cast one vote. For her. Done
100%
Residents need to be able to trust their candidates. Climate change and flooding has been going on for years and getting worse. Any smart residents knows this. So when a candidate pleads and promises to residents during a LWV debate, that “grass is a no brainer” instead of turf, you believe they will do the right thing. If we can no longer trust you, their creditability and trust go out the window. Layering on any special interest groups pressure to overturn the decision to make a turf sorts complex, lowers residents confidence. This is why residents will vote for a change.
Yes! Vote for change. But not climate change. The climate must remain the same.
The leaf crews are making a mess. Come on what’s going on? Looks very unorganized. Who’s in charge not impressed.
