Ridgewood NJ, in case you missed Wednesday night’s excruciating, 75-minute long, all hands on deck inquisition of last weekend’s boil water advisory from Ridgewood Water, here are the bullet point highlights:

  • The inquiry took place during a open public meeting of the Ridgewood Village Council
  • 6 management employees of Ridgewood Water sat front & center during the entire inquisition, which was completely scripted and lead by Ridgewood Mayor Paul Vagianos
  • Ridgewood officials vehemently and repeatedly denied that human error played any role at all in the boil water advisory
  • A section of Midland Park on or near Hill Street was reported to have been the event’s epicenter
  • Low water pressure in the affected areas was said to have occurred between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. only, and was publicly reported as being related to excessive lawn watering only because those are the hours in which lawn watering via automatic sprinklers is designated to take place; no evidence was presented at the inquisition to definitively verify that excessive lawn watering was indeed the cause of the recorded low water pressure
  • A malfunctioning water supply valve was also reported as having occurred during the same 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. time frame
  • According to Ridgewood Water, only 35-100 Ridgewood Water service addresses were actually impacted by the event
  • 6,100 Ridgewood Water customers were notified of the boil water advisory
  • Failures in the notification to customers process were said to be resultant from Ridgewood’s use of an “opt in” reverse 911 notification system
  • Ridgewood officials are now collecting data about service addresses within Ridgewood that will facilitate transition from an “opt in” to an “opt out” reverse 911 notification system
  • Mayors and Administrators from Glen Rock, Midland Park, and Wyckoff will be asked to supply data that will permit the “opt out” system to incorporate telephone numbers of Ridgewood Water served addresses in those towns
  • Several enhancements to the water supply infrastructure and water sources associated with a high elevation area of Midland Park are being evaluated, including, but not limited to, purchasing water from a neighboring town and new pumping equipment
  • Erroneous social media reports of human error being responsible for the boil water advisory were said to have caused a Midland Park councilwoman to be harassed by many Midland Park residents
Much more was said; these are just the highlights.

  1. It does not instill confidence in the residents who are like sitting ducks.

  2. I think we’ve learned by now based on othe debacle, that this Council is good at lying and they woukd do whatever is humanely possible to ensure even if it was human error, that it was covered up.

  3. Did Roar Ick show up to tell the council that “Ridgewood Works” and what a great job everyone’s doing g while hundreds of families had no clue what was happening and others got contradictory texts that their water was fine but it also wasn’t fine.

    1. Mr Calbi admitted they can not monitor water levels at a neighborhood level only at the base of the facilities and there is no pre warning. This is why water restrictions are after the fact and all or nothing participation. Really. Ask this money and equipment. And still PFAS. Enough Mr Calbi.

    2. Yup, That is what he did!!

  4. Sell the water company. This is too important for local, and obviously unprepared and incapable employees to manage. This vital service needs professional management. The boil water advisory points this out very clearly. This is not political, this is a vital service.

  6. Just watched this over coffee. Oh my god Vagianos has to go. He’s reading from a well rehearsed script. So much defense.

    1. It is “Here comes the Judge of sludge” (or fudge in the case that they lie)

  7. Of course they will Vehemently Deny this, after all they are the most transparent board ever!

  8. I watched the council meeting, yeah, that was all script, they met before, it’s all bullshit for the media.

  9. Everyone in the neighborhood knows the problem is with the antiquated pump at the corner of Erie and Glen. It’s been going on for years.
    FIX IT NOW

    1. Where is there a water supply pump at Erie and Glen? There was a sewage pump there but never a water supply pump to my knowledge.

  10. That was great watching that last night, I would like to donate a popcorn machine to Village Hall. So right before council meetings I can hand out bags of popcorn if anyone will like some and I’ll make sure I put extra butter.

  11. Watched the recording this morning on youtube. It was great that Calbi patted himself on the back and told everyone that he was the big savior who swooped in to save the day because he inherited a nightnare, Is this guy for real? Where did the contaminated soil go? I think we know.

  12. I wouldn’t trust Calbi for nothing. We thought a few years back he was looking to go into another position at another location. What happened? It’s funny when the water department screws up he backs them, but if another department screws up, he’s looking to hang you yeah hypocrite,

  13. There are three council members who are Vagianos puppets.

The village manager is a vagianos ex-campaign manager and vagianos puppet.

What else do you expect from these puppies whose sole purpose is to please Vagianos and do what they are asked to do by him.

He has the money. He’s funding them!!

    1. Mortimer, the greenwashing bee boy, will also be a Vagianos puppet. That is the goal, for PauLIE Putin to have ultimate power. If you ever notice, thiese puppets vote unanimously. Lock step. Never deviate. So Vagianos comes up with ideas, not always beneficial for Ridgewood, and these idiots just go along with it and then praise him as the almight king. It is actually really sick and disgusting. We all know that he got Winograd and Weitz to run so that they could implement the giant sports complex on the Schedler land, which has not worked out for them, but they will keep trying to do whatever it takes. The only reason that any safety projects were implemented were because residents spoke loudly to defend the things where monies should be spent, not on special interest projects. It is quite shocking to see how Vagianos puts his special spin on things. another term is too long to deal with someone who is as much of a devious schemer and liar as he has proven to be.

  14. Go to one of the coffees being hosted by the swingers and ask your questions there!

    1. Will Becky be there?

  15. Let me tell you something is more going on then the mayor council, and manager. Big problems with supervision across the board there’s no respect.

    1. So why is village manager Kazmark running around attending ball games when he should be fixing the REAL issues of Ridgewood. Do we need waterbottles with that on them from our peeps? He clearly can not prioritize because he is too busy schmoozing but we are losing and we pay this guy over $300,000.00 per year to screw things up.

      #Keith Kazmark do your job

    2. The “employees” are illiterate boobs?

      1. Village emplloyees and the clerks report in to VM Kazmark. He is their ultimate boss. He should have come in and figureed out what each group was responsible for and done a full evaluation but he was too busy posing for pictures and scouring Facebook. what kind of a village manager is that? Maybe his political agenda far exceeds his ego, which is fairly large.

  16. So we wonder how the village is doing with all of the rest of the village I d ‘s for the rest of the departments that need to get them.

  17. The guiltier they are, the more they DENY DENY DENY

  18. Parks and rec crew sit in their tractors on their phone hidden at Habernickel and other fields. Who is supervising them? They need it

  19. Paulie did a great job with the Dog & Pony Show.
Rehearsed questions, rehearsed answers, pat everybody on the back.
Throw in some bashing of media outlets.
