Ridgewood NJ, A major winter storm is expected to hit New Jersey starting Wednesday December 16, 2020 with snowfall expected up to 18” in our region. Forecasts also expect strong winds (up to 60mph) along with freezing rain through Thursday AM. The combination of high winds and a large accumulation of snow may produce localized power outages, downed wires, downed trees and may cause issues with the snow removal process.
First and foremost, the Ridgewood Police Department wants to ensure that our community is safe, and prepares for this weather event by ensuring our residents prepare themselves and their families for the upcoming days.
Please:
Ensure you have fresh batteries for your flashlights, or that the battery is charged.
Ensure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors have working batteries and are in proper working order (contact the Ridgewood Fire Department with any questions or concerns).
Ensure you have fuel for snow blowers, and that snow blowers are easily accessible. It may be a good idea to check any equipment that has yet to be used this season, to ensure you can start it.
If you do not have a snow blower, make sure that you have shovels and ice melt ready and readily accessible.
Please keep your elderly or other neighbors who may struggle with snow removal in mind. Perhaps help them contact family members who can help. Assist them in coming up with a plan for the next few days and either provide or find them the help they may need.
DO NOT bring outside patio heaters, fire-pits or other heat sources that are designed for use OUTDOORS, inside as a source of heat. This is very dangerous. Please only use properly functioning heaters that are designed for use indoors.
Secondly, we ask for our community’s cooperation prior to, during, and after the storm.
Do not park any vehicles on the street. Overnight parking is prohibited. Furthermore, a refusal or inability to remove any vehicles from the street may interfere with the snow removal process, which is a violation of Village Ordinance.
Residents who reside in the CBD are reminded that all surface lots are assumed posted as “No Parking” areas for the purposes of snow removal. Those with the Overnight Parking Permit are permitted to park on the second level of the Hudson Street Garage. Any vehicle found in a lot (with or without a permit) is subject to removal may receive a summons. Village Ordinance – 265-36(B)(5)
Please avoid driving on the roadways until they are properly cleared of snow, and safe to travel on.
We are here to help, so please do not hesitate to contact our department if there is any way we can help you and your families stay safe.
Saw the leaf crew on Irving at 12PM today…working furiously to beat the snowfall ….
