Ridgewood NJ, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7:00 pm Friday – 7:00 pm Saturday for Bergen County.  Snow totals may change, based on the track of the storm.  The possible accumulation is 5-10 inches of snow or more, along with gusty winds.  Strong winds have the potential to cause power outages and network damage that could impact power, internet, TV and phone service.

Ridgewood NJ, A major winter storm is expected to hit New Jersey starting Wednesday December 16, 2020 with snowfall expected up to 18” in our region. Forecasts also expect strong winds (up to 60mph) along with freezing rain through Thursday AM. The combination of high winds and a large accumulation of snow may produce localized power outages, downed wires, downed trees and may cause issues with the snow removal process.
First and foremost, the Ridgewood Police Department wants to ensure that our community is safe, and prepares for this weather event by ensuring our residents prepare themselves and their families for the upcoming days.

Ridgewood Mayor Ramon Hache:Update on weather. We have three salters out. Plow blades are being dropped. Municipal Court and Village committee meetings have been cancelled for tonight. Ridgewood Schools evening programs and activities have been cancelled. Best for people not to go out unless necessary. Conditions will get worse before they get better.

(MANHATTAN) AND NASSAU COUNTIES…

At 359 PM EST, an area of heavy snow was located along a line extending from Columbia to Chatham to Brookville to 6 miles south of
Shinnecock Hills. Movement was northeast at 30 mph.

Locations impacted include…Islip, Newark, Jersey City, Jamaica, Yonkers, Paterson, Bridgeport,
New Haven, Elizabeth, Stamford, Flatbush, Norwalk, Danbury, New Rochelle and Flushing.

Visibilities will drop quickly to less than a quarter of a mile in this area of heavy snow. Snowfall rates will average between 1 and 2 inches an hour. Travel will be difficult and should be avoided
where possible.

Icy roads are possible as the snow melts on the roads then quickly refreezes.

Ridgewood NJ, the Nation Weather Service a winter storm warning is in effect from 10 pm tonight till 4 am Thursday night .

* WHAT…Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches, except 10 to 15 inches across interior portions of
the Lower Hudson Valley, and most of interior southern Connecticut. Locally higher amounts are possible.

* WHERE…New York City, Northeast New Jersey, The Lower Hudson Valley, Southwestern Connecticut, Middlesex, Nassau and
northwestern Suffolk Counties.

* WHEN…From 10 PM this evening to 4 AM EST Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during the evening commute on Wednesday.
Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.

Alert: State of Emergency in Effect due to Severe Winter Weather

The Gov. has declared a State of Emergency statewide due to the severe winter storm. Residents are urged to stay off the roads and stay indoors!

On-street parking in the Village of Ridgewood is prohibited until the streets are cleared or until further notice. Please help the snow plows and village staff do their jobs by keeping the roads clear of cars, and fire hydrants and intersections free of snow and debris.

The National Weather Service has continued the Winter Storm Warning and increased total snow accumulation in our area to 10″-15″ including heavy bands of snow. A weather warning indicates a confirmed, current and present danger to this area.

NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area from 6AM Sat. through 1pm Sun. 5-9″ of snow is expected along with high winds.

Parking is prohibited on all Village of Ridgewood streets from midnight Friday through 12 noon on Sunday.

Stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Stay away from downed trees and power lines. Keep fire hydrants and intersections clear of snow and debris.

Residents should only call 911 for life threatening emergencies.
