Ridgewood NJ, the Stop Asian Hate Rally was held yesterday at 2pm at Van Neste square. We have to be honest when we first heard about the rally , given some Ridgewood residents recent attacks on the only non white school board members ,who also happen to be Asian and the derogatory language used by some residents toward some Asian community in public meetings, it did cross or mind that this would be a “Hate Asian ” rally .We where however pleasantly surprised that is was not.
The rally was well attended by a host of local politicos, such as Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco, former Mayor and current Bergen Comminissoner Ramon Hache, Ridgewood Councilmen Mike Sedon and Ridgewood Mayor Susan Kundsen .Oddly the rally was also attended but the some of the same people who launched the attacks on the current non white Asian Ridgewood school board members .
The rally was briefly interrupted, just prior to the Village of Ridgewood’s Mayor Susan Kundsen who was just about to take the podium by some sort or odd ball protest. Having watched the video several times you really can not make out the gibberish spoken with many onlookers suggesting the girl speaking suffered from some deep seated mental issue. Ridgewood Police did their usual stellar job at keep things civilized .
Some keen observers suggested the protests appeared to have targeted the mayor. The Question remains over who organized it? Alleged suspects include Rurik Halaby Jeff Voigt Paul Aronsohn , S Winograd etc. many of the same people involved in what appeared to be anti-Asian school board protest in September.
If you have to tell people you dont hate them you hate them
Rurik Halaby and Jeff Voigt are the biggest jackasses in Ridgewood. They always were, and always will be. What hypocrites they are for showing up at such an event. Shame on them both.
Crackpot sums it up nicely. Great job by Ridgewood Police for keeping things in check. Only in Ridgewood would something like this happen.
Round up the usual suspects Jackie!
I was there and I agree that the mayor was the primary target of the insurgents. I also concur that those who have been so outspoken against the mayor of late should be brought in for questioning.
Ridgewood progressives will use anybody first it was black people now its Asians
Ridgewood Moms and Dads fascist group on facebook is filled with hateful bigots
Ms. Winograd should also be ashamed of herself for showing up. She runs the most bigoted Facebook group in Ridgewood. Tried to get Ms. Kwak and Mr. Dani dumped from the school board and shows her ugly face yesterday. Filed an incident report with the police naming Mr. Dani because he sat next to her at a CRAB meeting and made her uncomfortable. Stay at home the next time, please Siobhan.
Ms Winograd is outwardly anti Asian and anti black. She is despicable. So is Halaby and so is Voigt. These people are creeps.
Was Belly Button Boy there yesterday…?
Did anyone here stop to think that the reasons some people might disagree with these school board members might have to do with their ideas and positions rather than their heritage?
1. The women speaking was Thria, some of you may remember her from this past summer. She has taken credit on Twitter for what happened yesterday.
2. Amazing how quickly, without any facts everyone on this blog jumps on the same people, every time, every issue you blame on the same crowd that you always blame.
3. People can have different ideas than you and still be good people, why do you always assume the worst?
4. Are we no longer allowed to disagree with Asians unless we are ourselves Asian? Are the BOE members of Asian descent now untouchable, do we have to agree with everything they say? If so, that doesn’t sound like much of a democracy to me.
5. The scheduled event was self serving, virtual signaling and performative. Nothing like a bunch of politicians and their cronies taking a stand in a safe and non threatening environment.
6. How about bringing it to the neighborhood where the actual perpetrators of these hate crimes live? Oh yah, that doesn’t fit your narrative…..
7. If you listen to what the protestor was saying, she’s not wrong, she’s just young and is going about it in a way that she is dismissed before anyone can listen to what she has to say.
Protesters were rude and disrespectful trying to steal the show ,these people are not friends of the Asian community and neither is the Ridgewood Moms and Dads Facebook group
No thria they are just a bunch of bigots and you are an enabler
Yes you can disagree with Asians but the people mentioned in the article are just a bunch if bigots
Where was Hans?
Yesterday’s protest during the peaceful rally was disappointing to this mom. While the woman who disrupted the rally certainly has a right to her own free speech, I’m sure she could have found a better way to present her ideas. I feel it was a blow for any of us with children at the rally, trying to teach them about positive rallying and how their generation CAN do better on these issues. However, that being said, kudos to those who handled things, which moved the event forward and brought back positivity to the rally.
The staff of The Ridgewood Blog wonders what the topic of conversation was during the “Stop Asian Hate” event between Councilwoman Pamela Perron and Mr. Rich Klein, a photographer/writer for “TAP into Ridgewood” – an online news media outlet that’s recently posted three (3) articles slamming Mayor Susan Knudsen. How about it Ms. Perron – what’s your relationship with Mr. Klein, and did you feed him any inside information about Council matters?
https://www.tapinto.net/towns/ridgewood/
It is rumored that Ms. Winograd has blocked residents whose last names suggest that they are members of Ridgewood’s Indian community from joining Ridgewood Moms and Dads. If that ain’t bigoted I don’t know what is.
Throat is a self serving troublemaker. She was trying to get arrested. Sorry you little idiot, it didn’t work.
Is Pam banging the guy ,after Gwen it’s always a legit question
Why don’t you ask me yourself ? Council Member Perron came over to me, first since we had never met in person before Saturday, and simply to say how well the Ridgewood Police handled the situation.
Hmm. The first time you’d ever met? Hmm. Had you ever communicated via text, phone, snail mail, or email prior? Hmm.
I thought it started out as a great rally. Its unfortunate that the rally was hijacked by the outspoken group. If they wanted their voices and views known, they certainly can hold their own. But as the lady was mentioning the other example of violence agianst Asians, she mentioned criminalizing mental illness and the continued apartheid policies of Israel against the Palestinians. It was not clear if those examples specifically target Asians.
Love the promotion if anti semitic illiterates
The skin of these people has gotten so thin that the faintest breeze can tear it apart. Asian hate is not more than against any other race. But go ahead, since people have nothing else to do, go and create new campaigns and protests. I have a lot of respect for Mr. Dani and MS. Kim but they should have a thicker skin. Behaving like a victim only makes them look weak. Don’t give Halaby and the other clowns so much credit. I have seen discrimination from the very first moment I stepped in the US a few decades ago. It only made me tougher and motivated me to work harder to succeed in life.
Rich Klein, she never met with you earlier, and she was able to locate you in the crowd.
Who is feeding you insider information then?
” I have seen discrimination from the very first moment I stepped in the US a few decades ago. It only made me tougher and motivated me to work harder to succeed in life.”
Some people see discrimination and shrug their shoulders.
Patriots see discrimination and decide to speak out on it, in order to make their country a better, fairer, and stronger place.
I’ve been here 30 years, I don’t know any of these hand-wringers.
By the way, a Japanese guy is about to win The Masters.
“By the way, a Japanese guy is about to win The Masters.”
Oh, good. Racism solved, then.
Rich Klein writes: “Why don’t you ask me yourself ? Council Member Perron came over to me, first since we had never met in person before Saturday, and simply to say how well the Ridgewood Police handled the situation.”
How did Councilwoman Perron even know you were a reporter? I saw you, and you just looked like any citizen with a camera. The fact that Peron introduced herself to you is highly suspicious. How did she know you were a reporter for some two-bit online news page? And you say you had never met in person prior to this? Had you been meeting on email and texts about the planned hijacking of an otherwise powerful gathering? The bigmouth troublemaker with the loudspeaker lives on Perons block
This all stinks. Something is very fishy.
To the person who wrote Ms. Kim – it is Ms. Kwak.
Correct; something stinks big time. And it isn’t a nearby garbage dump, because there is none in Ridgewood. Ms. Perron; care to comment?
More than 24 hours has passed since this event concluded and Mr. Klein has yet to post any photos of it, or an article. Seems a bit odd to me. In today’s world, news is posted as it happens, not days later. Hmm.
This has got to set some kind of speed record for conspiracy theories. A Councilperson was seen talking and this crowd goes straight to secret-sharing and illicit affairs. Wow. Shame on all of you.
Ask Gwen
“This has got to set some kind of speed record for conspiracy theories. A Councilperson was seen talking and this crowd goes straight to secret-sharing and illicit affairs. Wow. Shame on all of you.”
Taxpayers were asleep at the switch when it came (no pun intended) to the Aronsohn-Hauck illicit affair. This time, we’re staying right on top (again; no pun intended) of things.
Having lived in Ridgewood since 1981, it feels like more and more this is true-
https://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/05/world/americas/05iht-diversity.1.6986248.html
“Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam — famous for “Bowling Alone,” his 2000 book on declining civic engagement — has found that the greater the diversity in a community, the fewer people vote and the less they volunteer, the less they give to charity and work on community projects. In the most diverse communities, neighbors trust one another about half as much as they do in the most homogenous settings. The study, the largest ever on civic engagement in America, found that virtually all measures of civic health are lower in more diverse settings.”
“Having lived in Ridgewood since 1981, it feels like more and more this is true….”
Having lived in Ridgewood longer than that, it’s astounding to me in this, the year of our Lord 2021, I am reading pro-segregationist takes from fellow residents. Shame on you.
