Ridgewood NJ, Village Council members are now considering approval of a Soil Movement Permit in connection with construction work on the Dayton housing project, located at the old Brogan Cadillac site on South Broad Street.
During Wednesday evening’s Village Council Work Session, Village Engineer Christopher Rutishauser informed Council members that current plans call for approximately 400 large dump trucks full of soil to use a route which would require them all to exit the site and head southbound on South Broad Street into Glen Rock.
Citizen concerns were expressed as to the appropriateness of directing 400 large dump trucks full of dirt directly into a neighborhood consisting mostly of single family residences, along a primary walking route to and from the Orchard Elementary School, and into neighboring Glen Rock. Mayor Susan Knudsen indicated that given the aforementioned concerns, alternative routes would be reviewed and considered.
The Council is scheduled to formally vote on the Permit during a public meeting next Wednesday evening, November 8th.
Trucks travel the village roads every day of the week. That’s what roads are for. Your little kiddies will be alright, they will probably be in the classroom by the time the trucks start rolling. 400 truck loads sounds like a lot, but it’s not.
They don’t care about that section of town.
Same thing is going to happen if and when they build a parking garage on Hudson Street. The unintended consequences of massive development. Screwed again.
Remember Mr. Rutishauser’s comment about ghetto palm trees? This dump truck route selection is no coincidence.
Rutishauser does not care about the people on Broad Street. The street is lined with Paterson Palm Trees.
that may be true or not but what are the other options ?
This will have differing reactions on the Left. The climate change cult will hate to see their environmental initiative fold, but the union workers will be happy just to get more work. They don’t care if you build t or dismantle it.
What does Glen Rock think of having these trucks diverted to their streets???
So now Broad St is the ghetto??? Disgusting. Ridgewood Avenue is of course a much better route for dump trucks than South Broad. Maybe they can airlift the dirt instead with drones. Let me guess…this is another one of Donald Trump’s racist plans right??
Well it’s got to be done what’s going to happen when I build a brogen lot and Ken Smith and the old inspection station On Chestnut st
Move the dirt via freight train. The train tracks abut this development and 2 of the others. Move it at night when NJ Transit isn’t running. Simple solution.
9:51 Hudson St new to the possible Ghetto list after Garagezilla Jr erupts from the
ground across from historic churches and cafe district and peoples apartments .
As long as the 400 truck don’t by your house Ridgewood Taxpayer
I don’t know what the other options are James that what Chris “Bike Lane” Rutishauser gets paid the big buck for. Maybe he should present the council with a alternate plans and let them decide. Just saying.
Ridgewood Taxpayer you must have some inside information because no where was it said what time the truck will start or end.
12:11 What is your proposed route?
Well when the people who were against Valle Hospital Renewal complained about all the truck that was ok.
The best idea is the train suggestion.
Alternately, a better truck route would be north on South Broad Street, north on North Broad Street, east on Franklin Avenue, north on North Maple Avenue, east on Linwood Avenue to Route 17.
12:30 I don’t have any inside information. I just realize the little kiddies start school pretty early and it doesn’t make any sense that trucks would be loaded and ready to go before the kids are in school. It seems much more likely they would begin loading trucks in the morning and you would have a stream of truck traffic through the day. I also believe most construction managers would attempt to move trucks in the middle of the day to avoid “rush hours” before school and after school. I also remember that when I was a kid playing with my Tonka Trucks no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t load the dump trucks that fast.
11:03 Dirt dont pay
Railroads dont want this type of waste Unfiltered rock cement soil waste
Discharge from rail cars is a messy logistics problem
Rail scrap moves in deficated hoppers
Its also not clean rock aggregate involved here
Trucks move from a to z no rehandking folks
Ridgewood Taxpayer reference 12:15 post.
12:33PM: It was many more trucks for longer periods of time passing BF Middle School throughout the day. By the way it looks as though all will benefit from the grassroots efforts of a few to fight Valley and win as was announced last night at the council meeting.
Can we haul all to the compost yard
After they go under the tracks, then what? Ackerman dead ends into Godwin. If they go under the tracks and turn left into Glen Rock that has a school (Orchard), and then a playground, football fields, a pool etc. belonging to Glen Rock. That is also a difficult turn to make for a car, much less a line of trucks. If they go straight across into Glen Rock, they can only get out by going by Central school and the Library or Rock Road. It really sounds as if everyone knows there is no sensible way through Glen Rock but let’s make it “Not our problem. At least we’re not messing up Ridgewood.” And FYI, Broad street is lined with respectable housing, a Church and respectable people. How did it suddenly become a ghetto?
The job has to get done so give them the hours from 9 to 2
Boy oh boy we make this little job into a big construction site why you know why the police is going to say we have to control traffic detour traffic we got to analyze this yeah can you say overtime I see the writing on the wall I’ve been around a long time. Hire outside contractors to control the traffic which you can it’s not against the law And it’s cheaper
That guy is full of himself he thinks he so smart if he is what are you doing working for the village Ridgewood. Right should be working for some big construction firm in New York City make some real money. Don’t worry he’ll be reading this will be come back with some Papa ass remark like he always does Just a wise ass
How about put a sign out there free dirt see who takes it
let’s just sprinkle it all around the village like they did in The Great Escape!
Trucks for the Valley project would have been endless for 20 years.
UPDATE: The Village Council has requested that the Village’s Engineering Department review alternative options with respect to the route(s) dump trucks will take after being loaded with soil excavated at The Dayton construction site. Council members are reluctant to sign off on any plan that directs all trucks through a single residential neighborhood. Alternative options may include distributing the truck traffic via two (2) or more separate routes. A Resolution approving the associated Soil Movement Permit was scheduled for approval at last night’s Village Council Public Meeting, but was removed from the agenda in advance of the meeting.
