Ridgewood NJ, citing the tremendous workload imposed upon him and other members of the Ridgewood Village Council, Mayor Paul Vagianos announced his desire to impose an 11:00 PM “waivable” meeting curfew on all future Council meetings.
The mayor’s stated opinion is that “late nights” do not produce quality decisions, and more effective decisions could be reached if meetings did not extend past 11:00 PM.
After much discussion among Council members during Wednesday’s meeting, it was agreed that the following changes would be implemented following the Council’s scheduled March 8th Public Meeting:
- Closed sessions will be scheduled to start in advance of open meetings instead of at the end of open meetings
- Time limits will be placed on all presentations, but not necessarily strictly enforced
- Work Session agenda categories such as “award of contracts,” “budget,” and “operations” will be placed at beginning of agenda
- Council members are requested to be mindful of the length of their own comments
- All open meetings will begin at 7:30 PM instead of some at 7:30 PM and others at 8:00 PM
A three (3) month trial period will be in effect following passage of an appropriate resolution that memorializes the noted changes.
