Ridgewood NJ, The Village of Ridgewood’s Pedestrian Mall has been an enormous success. Starting on June 20, the central business district streets have been closed every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 10 pm allowing shoppers and diners to enjoy being outdoors in a safe, fun environment. Musicians are scattered throughout the mall during the dinner hours, and there are live bands in Van Neste Park every Sat and Sun evening. Other types of entertainment are sprinkled in through the day, such as puppeteers and The Ridgewood Irish Dancers, who perform on the square every Sunday at 4 pm.

  1. WTF? So they have to close it on the busiest weekend of the summer for businesses and restaurants because of what? Morons.

  4. Since the Camber or Guild were paying for this , sounds to me like the cost of OT for police and streets employees who have to come out on Saturday to set it up take it down Sunday after 11:00 PM is the concern.. I think we have seen the last of the Pedestrian Mall..

  6. Since when is the Village interested in saving money?

  7. If it’s about overtime we all thought that someone else was footing the bill. Whatever happened to that.

    Who is making these decisions.

  8. The real reason it is closed is because the town workers setting up the barricades would be paid double time to work setting up on a holiday…. Sundays are time and a half…..

  9. Double time for the DPW on Friday I thought that Saturday was the holiday. What’s up with that ?

  10. Penny wise and pound foolish on a weekend that promises to bring many visitors to the community. Had common sense prevailed, they would have created the mall for Friday through Monday, thereby avoiding the holiday overtime. Just plain stupid is all.

  11. Ridgewood residents in general leave town on every holiday weekend. These costly events are best left to the other Weekends when the taxpaying residents will be home to enjoy them

  12. Well why can’t the police that are on patrol move the barricades. They are working already. In so many other towns around us the Dpw works on weekends for events. How many employees do you need to handle this. I don’t see this being a big expense moving the barricades. Especially at one of the busiest weekends of the year. This would’ve been fantastic for public relations. So now what’s going to happen more people will go to other locations to spend money.

  13. Roll off containers were also used as security barricades. The cops can’t move those.

  14. Joke of a town. Too bad. Even 10 years ago the CBD was much more appealing than now. The gift that keeps on giving if you enjoy mediocrity and clueless residents who think certain council members walk on water.

  15. Yeah, and I suppose the global pandemic is somehow the fault of the council??? Geez, haters gotta hate

  16. Pathetic response

  17. You can use all the vehicles that the police can move instead of using rolloff containers that smell. I’m sure we have many other vehicles that we can put out those locations to replace the role lost at the police can move. Please stop.

  18. OK wait a minute so you’re dropping off rolloffs for security. And you’re not leaving the truck there at the scene. What happens if the fire department needs to get past those barricades ,or police, or EMTs,or what have you, That doesn’t make sense. If there is an emergency we have to wait for someone to come with the vehicle that moves the rolloff how long will that take. Something is not right, someone is not thinking of this. Why don’t they just keep the rolloff on top of the rolloff truck. Oh my God.

  19. WOW. That would be the smart thing to do but then again this is Ridgewood.

  20. Hard to imagine that with all the former Ridgewood H.S. graduates on the police force that they wouldn’t want to forego their “time and a half” this Sunday, and double pay for holidays, and think of the interests of the town and it’s residence. Especially during these unprecedented times. With all the nepotism on the force (brother/ brother, retired father/sons), surely they realize how important it is for other families to stay together and get out.
It’s one thing to sit behind a utility truck doing nothing for hours while receiving O.T. pay, and another to actually get out of your vehicles and participate.

  21. Ridgewood Dad. The police don’t get double time and half for holidays or any time. There are only 2 officers assigned to the that CBD detail. Just ask yourself who else is getting paid. Follow the money.

  22. How about keeping safe as we get through the pandemic. You all aware NJ taken OFF the list of states having the virus under control? Yesterday? You have mothers, father’s, children near by? A brilliant idea having people congregate, many without masks or distance? Hey, knock yourselves out!

  23. Everyone be safe please. I’m not overreacting but I will tell you this this disease is not done with us right now. 30 people died yesterday. This is no joke. Just look down south. And they said in March that once it warms up they will kill the disease, I guess not.

  24. Pathetic!!!!! Another reason to leave Ridgewood.

  25. Bye Felicia…
