FRANKLIN LAKES, NJ — A routine traffic stop on one of North Jersey’s busiest highways led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle and the arrest of a wanted individual last month.
On February 21, officers with the Franklin Lakes Police Department conducted a stop on Route 208 North, in the vicinity of Colonial Road. What began as a standard patrol observation quickly escalated when officers identified the vehicle as stolen.
Suspect Linked to Woodbridge Warrant
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Wilber R. Checofelix of Paterson, was found to have an active warrant out of Woodbridge, NJ. Upon further investigation at the scene, officers confirmed that the vehicle Checofelix was operating had been reported stolen.
Charges and Inter-Agency Cooperation
Following the roadside investigation, Franklin Lakes Police took Checofelix into custody without incident. He faces several legal repercussions, including:
-
Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle: A formal criminal charge processed by Franklin Lakes.
-
Traffic Summonses: Multiple citations related to the stop on Route 208.
The Woodbridge Police Department was notified of the arrest and subsequently arrived at the Franklin Lakes police headquarters to take custody of the suspect regarding the outstanding warrant.
This incident highlights the vigilance of local law enforcement in monitoring the Route 208 corridor, a major artery connecting Passaic and Bergen Counties.
