Saddle River NJ, the discussion regarding the middle school send-receive relationship between Saddle River and Ramsey has sparked debate and exploration among district officials. A recently unveiled long-range study conducted by the Porzio Bromberg & Newman law firm suggests that it is feasible to terminate the relationship without substantial negative financial consequences for either district. However, the study has raised questions and concerns among community members.
The study, which was presented at a special Board of Education meeting, has prompted discussions about the future of the send-receive arrangement, particularly regarding middle school students. While negotiations for a new contract with Ramsey for grades six through 12 are ongoing, the study serves as the initial step in considering the possibility of discontinuing the middle school component of the relationship.
Several factors have contributed to the need for this evaluation. Saddle River anticipates an increase in student population due to affordable housing developments, necessitating potential changes to accommodate these students. Additionally, there is a question of whether Saddle River can effectively educate its middle school students in-house and align its curriculum with that of Northern Highlands Regional High School, where the majority of its high school students attend after middle school.
The study, while not critical of Ramsey’s performance, highlights differences in standardized test scores between the two districts. However, consultants have suggested that factors such as remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced these disparities.
One key difference noted is the formation of the Quad Regional District, consisting of Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, and Upper Saddle River, which coordinates curriculum alignment between grade school and high school. However, this district does not include Ramsey or Saddle River, leading to questions about curriculum consistency and coordination.
The study’s unveiling has prompted community interest, with residents raising questions about costs and tax implications. Mayor Albert Kurpis emphasizes the need for a community-wide discussion before any final decisions are made.
Board President Emily Kaufman acknowledges the need for further examination of the study’s findings, particularly regarding the district’s past infrastructure and logistical considerations for housing middle school students.
As discussions continue, stakeholders await further deliberation and potential decisions regarding the future of the send-receive relationship between Saddle River and Ramsey.

This is a problem throughout the state of NJ. Affordable housing is forcing illegal and dysfunctional people in to wonderful communities for votes! That’s it! It’s not about caring for people. Democrats are ruthless liars!
You should really show a little more respect for your replacements.
I’m sorry, but you don’t put low income housing in a town like saddle river how can the kids even get along from two different worlds. Not saying there’s anything wrong with anyone that is in low income housing because that wouldn’t be fair, I know plenty of people that are in low income housing and their great people. But, it just doesn’t click. You don’t have to build low income housing every town I can understand building in middle-class towns like fair lawn Paramus, are you going to put middle class in Beverly Hills now? I don’t think so. This is just ridiculous.
Fresh Prince of Bel Air….
The site is isolated from the rest of the town by man made boundaries and the lack of sidewalks. The distance to the school negates the need for a town provided school bus, so how are the kids going to get to school other than adding more cars to East Allendale Avenue during rush hour?
