U.S. Embassy in Iraq , Dozens of people stormed the compound of the U.S. Embassy in Iraq on Tuesday in response to U.S. airstrikes that killed dozens of fighters from an Iran-backed militia group.

The Pentagon sent hundreds of troops to the region, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said he would delay a trip to Central Asia and Europe to focus on “the ongoing situation in Iraq and ensure the safety and security” of Americans there.

Three Kings and Camels Celebration

Ridgewood NJ, All are invited to gather in the church on Friday, January 3rd at 7pm to await the arrival of the Kings and their camels.
Parents are invited to help their children prepare a letter for the Kings in which the kids ask for a gift they would like to receive from the Kings. There letters will be collected by the Kings and the gift will be left at the child’s house on the Feast of the Epiphany – Sunday, January 5th.

Hanukkah begins December 22nd and ends the evening of December 30th.  A candle will be lit on the Menorah each night at sundown.

The RBSA is a volunteer organization.  We rely on parents and guardians to volunteer their time to help make this organization possible.  While you are going through the registration process, please be sure to register to volunteer as a coach, an assistant coach, fundraiser, parade assistant or any other position that you feel you can help.  Coaching in the lower grades requires only a few hours of your time a week and is critical to ensure that our players have the instruction and assistance needed to make this an enjoyable experience.

Murphy Administration Goes After Uber for Payroll taxes

Ridgewood NJ, the Murphy Administration is looking to harvest nearly $650 million in back taxes and penalties from Uber Technologies, making New Jersey the latest front in a nationwide battle over whether drivers who work for ridesharing companies are considered employees or independent contractors.

Uber and subsidiary Rasier were assessed $523 million in past-due taxes during the past four years for misclassifying drivers, the New Jersey Department of Labor said in letters to the companies, according to Bloomberg Law. The rideshare businesses also are on the hook for as much as $119 million in interest and penalties on the unpaid amounts, internal department documents obtained by the news service show.

Ridgewood NJ, former Goldman Sachs Executive, Gov. Phil Murphy is planning to sign an executive order that will create a 14-member “implementation board” to advance his goal of establishing a public bank in New Jersey. The basic premise of such an institution is to hold the millions of dollars in taxpayer deposits that are normally kept in commercial banks and leverage them instead to serve some sort of public purpose. What could possibly go wrong with that?

Ridgewood NJ, Mark your calendars for the annual traditional Ridgewood Tree Lighting Celebration.

But first Ridgewood Needs a tree. The village doesn’t have a Christmas tree., and not just any tree. Ridgewood’s Christmas tree is typically 50 to 75 feet tall. It usually comes from somewhere in the greater Ridgewood area. Downes Tree Service has offered to cut, transport, place and trim the tree for free. The tree will even get a police escort to its home at the end of East Ridgewood Avenue.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Indian Community held its 4th Annual Diwali Celebration in the Student Commons Room at Ridgewood High School on Saturday, October 19th from 6:30 PM until 10:00 PM.
Among the honored guests were Ridgewood Mayor Ramon Hache, Ridgewood Deputy Mayor Susan Knudsen, and Ridgewood Councilman Michael Sedon.

Event attendees were treated to several traditional Indian musical & dance productions (by children and adult performers), and dined on a variety of foods prepared and served by a well known Indian caterer.
An absolutely wonderful time was had by all who were there!
