New York NY, striking a blow to the Murphy Administrations sanctuary policies a federal appeals court said the Trump administration can withhold funds from New York City and seven states including New Jersey that have declared themselves sanctuaries from federal immigration policies, setting the stage for possible U.S. Supreme Court action.
The decision by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan overturned a lower court ruling ordering the administration to release funding to New York City and seven states; New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, Massachusetts, Virginia and Rhode Island.

Trenton NJ. The Murphy Administration today announced a roadmap for spending $60 million in Affordable Housing Trust Fund (AHTF) funding to advance affordable housing across the state. The funding, which was diverted in previous years, was restored as part of Governor Murphy’s FY2020 budget and is now available for pre-applications. The Department of Community Affairs (DCA) will administer the funds to create stronger, fairer communities in which people can afford to live.

TRENTON NJ, Sexual assault survivor Katie Brennan laid out a list of policy reform recommendations to improve the criminal justice process for victims of harassment, sexual assault and sexual misconduct in New Jersey in a letter to Sen. Loretta Weinberg and members of the Workgroup on Harassment, Assault and Misogyny in New Jersey Politics sent last week. Brennan, who has advocated for sweeping policy change since coming forward in October 2018 about her own sexual assault by senior Phil Murphy campaign and administration staffer Al Alvarez, also said she would like to present to the Workgroup about her proposals at its next hearing in March.

Trenton NJ, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrests of more than 100 foreign nationals in New Jersey, many of them with criminal records, in a nearly week-long sweep of the state.
From Jan. 27 to Feb. 1, ICE arrested 115 people from 23 countries.
Of those arrested, 84% had prior criminal convictions and/or pending criminal charges, and three of them were previously deported, according to ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in a written statement.

New Bridge Landing NJ, Dance mistress Denise Piccino and the Tricorne Dancers will give two one hour public performances in the Steuben House at 1:30 and 3:00 pm. Ridley & Anne Enslow will provide musical accompaniment on fiddle and hammered dulcimer. Throughout the afternoon, Rodger Yaden will portray General George Washington. Hot cider and crullers will be served in the restored 18th-century tavern in the Campbell-Christie House, where our gift shop is also located. Visitors may also see open-hearth cooking demonstrated in the Out-Kitchen, featuring meal items that General Washington might have eaten during his stay at New Bridge in 1780 and recipes from Martha’s cookbook. Re-enactors from the 3rd New Jersey Regiment will demonstrate 18th century military customs and drill. The George and Martha Centennial Quilt is on exhibit for this event!

The Port Authority of NY and NJ has decided to terminate the operating agreement with Saddle River Tours to operate at the Port Authority’s George Washington Bridge Bus Station (GWBBS). Saddle River Tours has an ongoing pattern of prolonged financial delinquencies, non-responsive communication, and recent abandonment of service to commuters over the past two (2) years.
Starting on January 25, 2020, Saddle River Tours bus company, which offers two services (Route 11C & Route 20/84) from Rockland County, New York to New York City for Rockland County, NY and Bergen County, NJ residents traveling into the City, will no longer operate out of the GWBBS.

New York NY, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) deportation officers assigned to the Criminal Alien Program lodged a detainer with the New York Police Department (NYPD), following their arrest of a suspect in the murder of a 92-year-old resident of Richmond Hill, New York.
Reeaz Khan, 21, an unlawfully present Guyanese national, was arrested Jan. 10 by the NYPD and charged with murder, sexual abuse, contact by forcible compulsion, and sexual abuse against a person incapable of consent. Khan was previously released from local law enforcement custody in November 2019 with an active detainer, due to New York City’s sanctuary policies.
