Government Employees Targeted by Nigerian “phishing” Attacks

Newark NJ, A Nigerian national extradited from Canada will appear in court today for his alleged role in a scheme that defrauded vendors of office products valued at nearly $1 million by “phishing” e-mail login information from government employees, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Olumide Ogunremi, a/k/a “Tony Williams,” was charged by indictment on Sept. 28, 2018, with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. He was extradited to the District of New Jersey on Sept. 26, 2019, and appeared today before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton in Newark federal court, where he pleaded not guilty and was detained without bail.

Atlantic City Mayor Admits Stealing $87,000 from A Youth Basketball Team

Atlantic City NJ, The mayor of Atlantic City today admitted to defrauding contributors to a youth basketball team of more than $87,000, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Democrat Frank Gilliam, 49, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Joseph H. Rodriguez to an information charging him with one count of wire fraud.

Ridgewood NJ, The Division of Highway Traffic Safety is calling on drivers, pedestrians, motorcyclists, and bicyclists in New Jersey to join in a one-day national safety campaign next week to raise awareness of the more than 35,000 lives lost each year in motor vehicle-related crashes nationwide.

“Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day,” commemorated each year on October 10, calls attention to reducing fatalities on one specific day in order to heighten consciousness about what people can do to reduce transportation fatalities and accidents on American highways, roads, and streets.

Edgewater NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, man today admitted conspiring to launder the proceeds of narcotics activity, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Bobbie L. Henderson III, 36, of Edgewater, New Jersey, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler in Newark federal court to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to launder monetary instruments.

Trenton NJ, Earlier this year, Governor Phil Murphy’s administration ordered local law enforcement officials to stop cooperating with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents when detaining criminals who are also illegal immigrants.

Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested more than 50 illegal immigrants and issued wanted posters for several more who were intentionally released from prisons under the Governor’s Administration’s directive. Among those released were two men charged with domestic violence and a man arrested for alleged sexual assault on a minor child.

Ridgewood NJ, Senate President Steve Sweeney announced today the creation of the Senate Select Committee on New Jersey Transit to investigate the reasons for NJ Transit’s continued failures and to develop an action plan to turn around the embattled agency.

Senate Republican Leader Tom Kean (R-21), Senator Kip Bateman (R-16), and Senator Kristin Corrado (R-40) will serve on the newly formed Senate Select Committee on New Jersey Transit to investigate the continuing failures of the troubled commuter rail agency and develop an action plan to improve service.

Woodbridge NJ, As the Democratic machine attempts to maintain control of Middlesex County with dangerous sanctuary policies, Sheriff candidate Anthony Gallo continues to take the lead on no-sanctuary policies, as this has been a part of his initial platform. “This sanctuary state is what initiated me to get into the race for Sheriff in the first place. As the election moved forward, I initially called for the arrest of Attorney General Grewal for harboring these criminal illegals. Now, I see that Sheriffs in Monmouth, Cape May and Sussex are also resisting AG Grewal’s Immigrant directive. I have attended dozens of events throughout Middlesex County over the past 8 months and have spoken to thousands of people on the sanctuary state, it is my opinion that at least 80-90% do not want these criminals running around in their communities with their children. As soon as I mention my stance on this subject I immediately get “You got my vote”, even from many Democrats.

A directive from the Attorney General has prohibited local law enforcement agencies from working with federal immigration authorities.

New Jersey’s Fiscal Problems are Biggest Concern for Business Owners says NJCPA

ROSELAND NJ, The greatest issue impacting the operation of a business in New Jersey over the next 12 months is the state’s fiscal problems, according to nearly 30 percent of the 347 respondents in a survey conducted by the New Jersey Society of CPAs (NJCPA) earlier this month. State and local taxes ranked second at nearly 27 percent.

On a broader scale, respondents cited high taxes, pension and health benefits funding for public employees, and regulatory burdens as the top issues that are likely to hinder the state’s future economic growth. Rising health care costs and decaying infrastructure also rounded out their main concerns.

Ridgewood NJ, Bergen County Mosquito Control will be performing a truck-mounted spraying mission to control adult mosquitoes using Scourge Aduliticde in Ridgewood on Wednesday October 2nd.

These applications will be performed between the hours of 3-6 AM. In the event of rain during those hours, the operation will be postponed until Thursday October 3rd. Englewood NJ, A Bergen County, New Jersey, woman has been charged for her role in a conspiracy that involved the creation of false documentation to secure over $4 million dollars in bank loans, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Jennie Frias, a/k/a “Jennie Castillo,” 36, of Englewood, New Jersey, was charged by complaint with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud. Frias had her initial appearance Sept. 25, 2019, before U.S. Magistrate Judge James B. Clark III in Newark federal court and was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.
