Parsippany NJ, Assemblywoman BettyLou DeCroce (R-26) demanded the Legislature take action on her bill to abolish the School Development Authority (SDA) and place school construction responsibilities under the Department of Treasury, after the state was forced this week to fire 30 SDA employees whose hiring violated state ethics guidelines
A-5330, introduced by the Assemblywoman after the SDA staffing scandal broke in April, will transfer all school construction responsibilities now handled by the troubled agency to the Division of Property Management and Construction in the Department of Treasury. Assemblywoman DeCroce noted that her legislation will provide the Governor and Legislature more direct authority to control school construction activities, while allowing the state Economic Development Authority (EDA) to retain its responsibility for the financing of school construction projects.

Egg Harbor NJ, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers have arrested a Mexican national charged by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department for causing death while driving without a license, a 3rd degree felony, July 11, 2019. Jorge Rodriguez-Saldana, 30, was driving a vehicle that struck a grandmother and her two grandchildren, killing the seven-year-old child and critically injuring the grandmother.

Wall Township NJ, A Monmouth County, New Jersey, man was indicted today by a federal grand jury for operating an unlicensed money transmitting business through which he charged customers fees to convert more than $2 million in cash into the digital currency Bitcoin.
William Green, 46, of Wall Township, was charged by indictment with one count of operating an unlicensed money transmitting business. He is scheduled to appear before a United States District Judge on a date to be scheduled. He was previously charged with the same offense by criminal complaint on February 28, 2019.

Upper Saddle River NJ, Stop Work Orders Issued on Former Apple Ridge and One Lake Street: On Thursday, July 11, 2019, we had a significant rain event with flash flood warnings in effect. Our Construction Official and Borough Administrator were on site at the former Apple Ridge site and witnessed runoff onto Carlough Road. Hay that was in use to restrict runoff, had been swept off the property by the force of the rain and clogged the storm drains. DPW was called in as well. The hay was removed to clear the drains and sand bags placed. A portion of the silt fence had fallen down. This project is under the jurisdiction of the NJ DEP (who has stated they consider the site fully remediated and the matter closed) and the Bergen County Soil Conservation District.

Glen Rock NJ, For the second time in less than 24 hours, cooperation between Glen Rock Police and Ridgewood Police resulted in the arrest of suspect wanted in connection with theft of property. This time, an alert Ridgewood Police officer spotted someone matching the description of an individual wanted in connection with an alleged Monday morning, 07/22, shoplifting incident in Glen Rock. The individual was detained until Glen Rock Police officers arrived and took him into custody. Proceeds of the alleged shoplifting, a bottle of liquor, were recovered at the arrest scene. The suspect was transported to Glen Rock Police headquarters for processing.

Ambrose, III announced the arrest of VICTOR TAYLOR (DOB: 12/12/1971, single, unemployed) of 12 Herpers Street, Irvington, NJ, for the murder of Mark Holley. The arrest is the result of a Cold Case Homicide Investigation conducted by the North Jersey Cold Case Task Force under the direction of Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Chief Robert Anzilotti.

Hackensack NJ, This afternoon, Bergen County Sheriff Anthony Cureton administered the oath of office to Undersheriff Orestes Alvarez who was sworn-in at a public ceremony in the Two Bergen County Plaza Conference Center. Undersheriff Alvarez joins Sheriff Cureton’s executive team comprised of Executive Undersheriff Vincent Quatrone, Undersheriff Dave Borzotta, Undersheriff Jin Sung Kim, and Chief Warrant Officer Cora Taylor, and will be responsible for operations at the Bergen County Jail.

Greenwood Lake NJ, Greenwood Lake this week became the latest New Jersey lake to be closed due to high bacteria levels from toxic algae blooms. Several other lakes either remain closed or have been closed because of toxic algae, including Lake Hopatcong, the largest recreational lake in the state. People are advised not to have any contact with the water. The lake closures have further exposed the shortage of public swimming areas in North and Central Jersey.
