Hackensack NJ, a heartwarming story of resilience and second chances has unfolded at the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, where Stella, a 1-year-old dachshund mix, has finally found her forever home after a harrowing ordeal.

The Accident That Changed Stella’s Life

On October 13, Stella’s life took a dramatic turn. The small dog, wearing a pink sweater, was hit by a car on Route 4 in Hackensack. She was rushed to Oradell Animal Hospital by a good Samaritan, where veterinarians discovered multiple rib and pelvic fractures. Despite her injuries, no owner came forward to claim her.

Stella’s Road to Recovery

By October 25, Stella was transferred to the Bergen County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. Over the next two months, the shelter’s veterinary team provided comprehensive care, including dental treatments, vaccinations, and spaying. With diligent monitoring, Stella made a remarkable recovery.

“She is now healthy, can walk without limping, and loves to play,” said Deborah Viney, community relations specialist and adoption coordinator at the shelter. “She can be timid initially but quickly warms up to people. After careful screening, we found the perfect home for her.”

Stella Finds Her Forever Family

Stella’s story captured the attention of animal lovers on social media, including Nutley resident Natalie D’Angelo. When D’Angelo read about Stella’s ordeal on a Bergen County Facebook page, she was determined to adopt her.

“I saw that someone might have thrown her out on Route 4, and she got hit. I immediately contacted a friend who works at Oradell Animal Hospital to learn more,” said D’Angelo. Despite the overwhelming interest in Stella, D’Angelo took a chance and submitted an application to the shelter.

After weeks of waiting, D’Angelo finally got the call she had been hoping for. On Friday afternoon, she brought Stella home, where the spirited dachshund mix is already making herself comfortable.

“She’s really doing well. She’s all over my couch and my house. So far, so good,” said D’Angelo, who lost her previous dog in March. “I feel like Stella shares some of the same mannerisms. She’s not a replacement, but she’s filling my heart again.”

A Happy New Chapter

Now settled in her new home, Stella is thriving. “She’s definitely a little devil dog,” joked D’Angelo. “She’s spunky, hopping all over the place. She’s really cute, and I’m so excited to have her.”
