Teaneck NJ, law enforcement officials in Mercer County, NJ, have arrested a Teaneck man after discovering $32,000 worth of heroin hidden in his vehicle during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Major Drug Bust on NJ Turnpike

According to the Mercer County Narcotics Task Force, officers were tipped off that Edwin Vargas was allegedly transporting a large quantity of narcotics into Hamilton Township near the Woodrow Wilson Service Area. Acting on this information, authorities launched a surveillance operation and later conducted a traffic stop on Tuesday, February 11, at 11:30 a.m.

K-9 Unit Uncovers Hidden Drugs

During the stop, a K-9 unit named Indy alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle’s center console. A subsequent search uncovered a hydraulic trap containing approximately one kilogram of suspected heroin—a haul valued at $32,000 on the street.

Suspect Facing Multiple Charges

Following the discovery, Vargas was detained and charged with multiple first-degree narcotics offenses. Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey confirmed the arrest and emphasized the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

This latest drug bust highlights ongoing efforts by New Jersey authorities to crack down on illegal narcotics distribution, particularly along major transportation routes like the New Jersey Turnpike.
