Helping Hands: The Ridgewood Knights of Columbus Kick Off “Shake the Can” Weekend for Local Charities

Ridgewood NJ, Get ready to see the “yellow vests” back in action! This April, the Ridgewood Knights of Columbus Council 1736 is heading to the sidewalks for their annual tradition of community giving.

Whether you’re grabbing coffee downtown or heading to mass, you’ll have a chance to help some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

Supporting Those with Cognitive Disabilities

From Friday, April 24, through Sunday, April 26, the Knights will be stationed throughout the Ridgewood central business district and outside Our Lady of Mount Carmel (OLMC) after weekend masses.

The goal? To collect donations specifically for local charities that support individuals with cognitive disabilities. Every cent raised stays close to home, funding organizations that provide essential services, education, and advocacy.

“This is a tradition that we do every year with great success, and we thank all of the residents of Ridgewood for their support,” says John Walicki, Grand Knight of the Ridgewood Council.

How You Can Give: Cash or Digital

In a world that is increasingly cashless, the Knights are making it easier than ever to contribute. While the classic “shaking the can” for spare change remains a staple, you can now support the cause via:

  • Cash Donations: Drop your change or bills into the iconic yellow cans.

  • Venmo & PayPal: Look for the QR codes held by volunteers to give instantly via your smartphone.

Where Does the Money Go?

Transparency is key for Council 1736. If you’re curious about exactly which local organizations benefit from your generosity, you can find a full list of supported charities on the Events tab of their official website: www.ridgewoodkofc.org.
