Ridgewood NJ, once Major League Baseball star Tug McGraw when he was asked whether he preferred grass or Astroturf replied : “I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf.” While the Village debates the soundness of the idea of putting a turf field on Route 17 , thousands of dollars of shrubbery on the berm has died . Apparently neglect ,high winds, no water and poor air quality did them in.
In 2017 the Village Council rescinded Resolution #15-257 , saving the Schedler Park from being clear-cut and destroying acres of trees and wildlife habitat. The council’s unanimous vote to do the right thing was another blow for the disastrous plans of former Village administration. This was a huge victory for the neighborhood who had been fighting to preserve both the natural environment at Schedler and also preserve the historic significance of the sight .
But now this new “normal” council has decided the kids should play on the highway and have plans to clear cut the trees ,destroy the wildlife habitat and poison their children with foul air. Not to mention the Village will have to pay back grant money received after the State Historic Preservation Office removes the historic status .

Vote the bums out!
This site has absolutely no historical significance.
Oh but the house.
Lets move on to lower Hawes Field.
My neighbors planted little trees to shield some ugly things from sight but made no allowance for watering and they all died.
As any home owner knows, it’s the maintenance that kills you (or your plants).
Wow! Judge much?
Wow. Judge much??
Wow! so you’re ok with disobeying our strict watering restrictions?
Did you actually see them “never” water them??
Why don’t we task them to evaluate every line item in the Budget and cut 8 to 10 million dollars out of next years Budget no excuses terms
There were so many truly historical houses in Ridgewood that have either been taken down or changed to meet the new owners specifications–within bounds if it has actually been declared historical. Four interior rooms were all that could even have been considered for “historical value” but the fictional “battle”–according to the documentation was actually fought on the “hill above the river” which was our property and we actually found an historical boot on it. The Schedler property was a project of Isabella Altano and when she died Susan took up a memorial torch and hasted to spend a fortune on a totally unusable house.
It’s winter time.
We applied for a ton of money because the house was historic, so just like you are stuck with the politicians you elected, we are stuck with the historic designation we applied for.
Astroturf makes no sense at an historic sight.

They should put up a big wall along side, route 17 like they did when you drive north of that site, Hohokus, upper saddle, River, saddle, River,
And the Ridgewood governing body has just the person who knows about walls………………………….
Simple incompetence. If one has been alive for even a little while, and even mildly/casually aware of ones surroundings, you will have seen this before. I see it every year. Homeowners, perhaps new to the game, spending a fortune on evergreens, planting them, and learning the hard way that they need to be watered. I was hoping our village staff knew better. I really think they do, but someone failed to give a shit. When I was a hiring manager, my #1 criteria was to determine if the prospective employee simply gave a shit. If I determined they did, we moved into the next stage. This/These employees need to be reprimanded, if not terminated.
And who came up with that. Put small shrubs on s burn on rt 17. No water, way too much sun. Salt , dirt, and the breeze blowing off the highway.
Come on. And who knows about the dirt.?
It probably was mustache boy.
Supposedly, there’s an empty seat at the table. Well, never mind tell you later on.
I’ll bet a million dollars that the landscape was designed by an engineer who has absolutely no business in doing so. Engineers have no formal training in doing so. Would you hire a landscape designer to design a bridge? Plants were likely improperly planted from the start and then neglected from this point on. I work as a landscape designer and yes I understand it’s a bit biased, but I see this all the time.
So very true, we wonder who?
Well who
