Ridgewood NJ, Sunday (06/25) afternoon’s thunderstorm reeked havoc of sorts in Ridgewood when two (2) primary electric wires fell to the ground and caught fire on West Glen Avenue near Oak Street. One or both of the smoldering wires also fell onto active NJ Transit railroad tracks, reportedly damaging some critical signaling equipment, which in turn caused train cancellations and extensive delays on NJ Transit’s Bergen & Main Lines. Local power outages were also reported; most notably traffic control devices at several major intersections in Ridgewood were darkened until portable generators were put into place at each of them. The good news was that police received no reports of storm related injuries or significant property damage. West Glen Avenue was closed between North Maple Avenue and Upper Boulevard for an extended period to facilitate utility company repairs.

NJT: Main, Bergen County and Port Jervis rail service continues to be subject to up to 30-minute delays in both directions due to signal issues near Ridgewood.
