Mahwah NJ, a tractor-trailer fire on Route 287 Northbound in Mahwah caused major delays during Wednesday morning’s rush hour, closing lanes and backing up traffic for miles.
Fire Erupts Near Exit 66
The fire was first reported around 7 a.m. on the northbound side, just south of Exit 66, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The truck sustained heavy damage, with the front of the vehicle appearing charred and gray after the flames were extinguished.
Fire Crews Respond to the Scene
Mahwah Rescue 1 (Res1cue) and Company 1 were requested to support fire companies 2 and 4 in battling the blaze. Rescue Engine 117 responded with a full crew, assisting with water supply, extinguishment, and overhaul. Firefighters remained on scene for just over an hour before returning to quarters.
Traffic Delays & No Injuries Reported
The incident forced lane closures, leading to significant traffic backups on Route 287 Northbound. Despite the extensive damage to the tractor-trailer, no injuries were reported, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.
Authorities have not yet released details on the cause of the fire.

Burden county, Police Department, and the state police need to slow these trucks down, these guys are driving 80 to 90 miles an hour, ridiculous and get the cops pull over a family driving a mini van. It’s such bullshit.
I have never seen one of these trucks driving 80 or 90 MPH, that is almost impossible, and it certainly had nothing to do with the fire. Stop the nonsense. Have another drink. You write like you’re drinking. Think!!!
