Ridgewood revives bid to limit smoking
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 8, 2014
THE RECORD

RIDGEWOOD — The Village Council this week will continue to discuss extending the ban on smoking in public parks to sidewalks that run adjacent to Board of Education and The Valley Hospital properties.

Talks on the issue began early last month, after similar requests from Ridgewood Schools Superintendent Dan Fishbein and Audrey Meyers, the hospital president.

“The purpose of the … ban would be to allow students to walk to and from school without having to deal with secondhand smoke,” Mayor Paul Aronsohn said.

  1. Mayor Paul Aronsohn grandstanding again.

  2. But this time for a good cause.

  3. Amazing Valley and the grandstanding mayor are worried about 2nd hand smoke but not worried about the dust , Diesel fuel fumes and asbestos spewed all over the kids at BF for 10 years during Valleys construction … sounds reasonable lol

  4. I agree with #3. Seriously? I don’t smoke but think this is ridiculous. I mean it’s outside and your not sitting at a cafe eating. Find a real problem to focus on. If you need some suggestions: taxes, leaf pick up issues, traffic, parking or pedestrian safety.

  5. Just goes to should you how much influence Valley Hospital has. The School is one thing but a private entity who created this problem by declaring a smoke free hospital campus is quite another. Where will this stop! What is next on the progressive liberal agenda of our carpetbagger mayor?

  6. Maybe the Mayor is looking at a law that there will be no walking on public sidewalks with a big gulp soda. You know because it not health.

  7. The no smoking thing is really getting carried away with all this nonsense.

  8. Aronsohn: Uberliberal!

  9. We should have a band against wearing toupees at Council Meeting.

  10. I am not a smoker. This is a waste of time. What’s the next item on Valley’s agenda?

  11. Well it look like a done deal after watching the council meeting. Megan was up there doing the dog and pony show. The three amigos could not be happier with themselves. Wait for the vote on the expansion

  12. Why the outrage ? we’re not allowed to drink alcohol in public parks in rwd, and drinking only hurts the drinker why not prohibit smoking too. When the alcohol ordinance was passed nobody said anything.

  13. What else should we ban in Ridgewood?

  14. I think we should ban cars and trucks on the the streets because they are dangerous.

  15. The notion that Valley wants to ban cigarettes outside its facilities while promoting tens of thousands of dump truck trips on and off it’s campus is truly laughable. What I would pay to sit in on one of their PR meetings. These people are so out of touch with reality and the Planning Board keeps bending over backwards for them? Something smells funny and it’s not cigarettes or diesel fumes.
