Ridgewood NJ, here’s what several Village employees have recently posted on The Ridgewood Blog about possible health issues related to their work at the former Schedler property. All entries here are verbatim posts taken copied from our site:

“Well, now that we know that it is contaminated. So now we got to determine who has been affected with possible contamination. The village health department alongside the DEP need to get a full list of employees that worked at that location that would be very responsibility because this doesn’t just go away. Everyone could be feeling fine now but down the road no one knows so this must be documented legally, and for the village well they will be liable, they put employees impossible, danger situation healthwise. This is no joking matter so the mayor council manager health department. DEP must reach out to everyone. I’m sure someone has a list of employees that work there we do know from the grapevine. There were a few equipment operators from the street department, so we would think it be wise to have those employees checked out somehow someway . It’s their responsibility”
“Isn’t it funny ever since this article came out how many employees are so very quiet about this so sneaky I think someone’s walking around telling people not to talk and be quiet about it, too late the cats out of the bag. It’s amazing how many employees are so scared, and up certain peoples asses.”
“So very true. He needs to go.it’s one thing after another. The bottom line is the village put employees at risk of contamination poisoning. And they are liable.”
“Supposedly, there’s a private investigation going on regarding village employees that worked on that site. What do you think it was only done by one person we had engineering on the ground, we had At least three street department employees running equipment, we had Village employees hauling with dump trucks to that site. And guess what it’s all on the surveillance. We think the village Health department needs to get all the names of employees that were breathing that dust. No one knows what a long-term effect is going to be here. This is not even funny.”
“So very true, money time and effort is one thing, but now we have a super fund pollution site in the village, which May affect many individuals health down the road we just don’t know. I think between the Health Department ,and the D e p , should find out exactly who worked at that site , and nearby neighbors to see if anyone affected in any which way. It’s very responsibility.”
“Agree with your point, that anyone working there or living in that neighborhood should be evaluated for health concerns. It is very scary and this seems to only be the tip of the iceberg as only the berm was tested. Who knows what else will be uncovered when the expanded testing that the Village Manager spoke about is underway. This is really an awful and dangerous mess and I am confused as to why there is no imminent danger according to the Village Manager and the firm who conducted the testing. How can they be sure.”
“They must be having meetings on top of meetings, backpedaling is happening right now . Lots of concern over contamination because they know they liable for peoples health.”
“We hope that they’re reaching out to all employees that worked at that site. I’m sure there was a list of employees that was operating equipment throughout the years supposedly one equipment operators that worked at that site have recently retired.”
“Yeah, OK, someone’s pointing fingers now . what are you trying to say there’s only three loads of contamination through that whole pile, yeah OK . The bottom line is There’s contamination. And people are exposed. And the village is libel for their health and safety. I think most people think they should have another outside lab that the village doesn’t know to do an inspection. Let’s see what they come up with.”
“This guy should be immediately fired. This is ridiculous enough enough. Remember, this is not over. He put Village employees at risk the mayor the council the help department, the manager and the DEP better have a list of employees that worked on that site. We are conducting our own investigation and so far we heard, there was about three employees from the street department throughout the years working at that site running equipment. We are taking deeper to get more information.”

    1. The failed lawyer/mediocre diner owner and his three dolts are in in WAY over their heads now!

      Massive class action lawsuits coming…yikes.

      1. Can’t wait. Bring it on!!! They deserve to be held responsible. This is a disgusting mess the village, our trusted council did. Causing irreversible harm to many. Possibly. So horrible. VOTE the out

    2. And to think our Mayor, his PFAS posse, and Keith were dismissive of the whistleblower who started this chain reaction and led us to the truth.

      Shameful.

This crew makes Bob Menendez look like Thomas Jefferson.

Too late now for grandstanding. Time to lawyer up! Hope it was worth the quid pro quo with the sports bunnies and silly Dads!

Perhaps all those superstar athletes raised in the VOR can contribute to their legal fund?

  2. Did someone tell these genius employees not to eat the dirt?

  4. Well, just may be the mayor council manager health department and the d e p ,should reach out to the employees who worked at that location, just to make sure that they are healthy. Maybe document all employees. from now on the understanding, there are a few equipment operators, One has recently retired. A few drivers from the water department engineering employees were on the ground. We would think this is concerning. No one knows if this will affect their health down the road maybe it’s affecting their health right now and they don’t even know it, none of us are doctors, scientist, affects their blood, lungs skin, and who knows what else. I think the village needs to take the proper action. They are responsible, this is about doing the right thing right now maybe for once they will just maybe.

    1. I would love to see the Eyewitness News van pull up with a camera crew and have the commentator appear in a hazmat suit.

  6. I understand Mr. Rutishauser had at some point in the past directed a group of street department employees to pull weeds from the Schedler berm by hand.

  7. Anyone who has driven past the site on rt 17 is also eligible to sue.

  8. The biggest thing to remember is the dirt was deliberately dumped–and a lot more places were involved than what has been stated unless the Village has records of where the dirt from all the contaminated business–3 car dealers, 1 gas station–went. Also, many of this Council were not there when this stuff was done. We have to make sure the correct people are accused even though the Village is the entity that will be held responsible. The duck pond was also cleaned and at least the rocks were dumped there. I assume anything dredged up is there also. And there was some unidentified dumping at night. The suggestion to cover it with clean fill would be massively expensive–why do you think they were so happy to take not inspected dirt? Also, I would ask if covering it would solve the problem of the contaminants seeping into neighbor’s wells and Ridgewood’s ground water?

  9. What are you stupid? I guess you didn’t take science class. You don’t have to eat. The dirt particles are in the air. Talk to a certified pomologist and they could tell you that particles get into your lungs stomach.

    1. I must have fallen asleep during the one and only science class when they covered the lungs stomach section of anatomy.

  10. It wont take long for the unionized shovel leaning
Dolts to lawyer up. They know a good scam when they see it. The scumbags running the town have just dug their own hole. No pun intended! Ha!

  11. This is so embarrassing for the village. We used to be the leaders now we just follow and screw up one thing after the next. Have you noticed all the problems in the past four years. Why is that before that things are going smooth, this card administration Across-the-board it’s one big effing mess ,

  12. Going to get big media coverage.

  13. Can we please sell this stupid piece of land.

  14. I’m no fan of the sports complex but do any of these commentors realize they probably interact with far more chemicals on a daily basis than encountered in a berm at Schedler.

    1. Of course they don’t. No one has told them to be upset about that yet.

  15. In of itself – car traffic creates pollutants
In of itself – we have contaminated soil
In of itself – we have chemical compounds in Turf which are known to have PFAS
In of itself – maybe there are risks that Council wants to take, but when you stack these all together as “cluster”, you just can’t ignore the gasoline being poured on the fire.
Step up Council and Village leaders and do the right thing .
