VILLAGE OF RIDGEWOOD TIME FOR RENEWAL OF DOG LICENSES

Ridgewood NJ, An email has been sent out by the Health Department for all present dog owners to renew their dog licenses.  Since rabies vaccines for pets are essential in providing a barrier of protection between pets and people in the community, we encourage the vaccination of pets.  In addition, the NJ Statute states that dog licenses shall expire no later than June 30th in the current licensing year.  We have not received notice that this has been extended through current legislation, due to the pandemic.

We understand the concern of taking pets to the veterinarian for a rabies shot, just to obtain a license, especially if the pet is never let outdoors or is never let off leash when outdoors.  Unfortunately, there have been recent cases of pet exposures to wildlife, including a rabid raccoon entering through an open garage door, attacking pets, and then exposing owners in the household.

We urge dog owners to obtain rabies vaccinations for their pets in a timely manner.  That being said, since the Village Hall is currently closed to the public, the Village of Ridgewood will extend the time period to renew the dog licenses, without a late fee, until September 1, 2020.
