Ridgewood NJ, Small Business Saturday, which will be held on November 27 this year, urges people to support small businesses by purchasing locally. At the height of the Great Recession, American Express established this shopping holiday in 2010 as an effort to divert holiday shopping to local retailers. After a decade, it is now commemorated in all 50 states, and the Senate passed a resolution commemorating Small Business Saturday in 2011.

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday falling neatly between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, boasting one of the year’s busiest shopping weeks. Small Business Saturday is mainly an inspirational holiday or a rally for supporting small businesses in local communities over big-box retailers or Amazon.

According to forecasts from LawnStarter More than half of small businesses (56%) believe that this year’s Small Business Saturday is more important than ever for their company.

Here are some key findings compiled by LawnStarter :

Projections say that holiday retail sales will be at an all-time high in 2021. This holiday season, consumers are estimated to spend up to $859 billion, with up to $226 billion targeted for online purchases.

American Express predicts that $0.67 of every dollar spent at a small company stays in the local community. This has the potential to increase sales during the 2021 holiday season, in the aftermath of the pandemic

78% of Small Businesses believe that holiday sales will affect their ability to remain open in 2022.

Over 104 million people participated on Small Business Saturday in 2018, creating a record $17.8 billion in reported spending, up from $12 million in 2017. This year the numbers are expected to reach an all-time high.

There is a 3-hour limit on all streets, lots, and in the Hudson Street Garage on Saturday, with payment required either at a kiosk or through ParkMobile, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
