Ridgewood NJ, a post making its way around Facebook lays out the primary issue of reckless and irresponsible overdevelopment in Ridgewood “and concludes ,“Only Melanie Hooban has a clear and honest track record”. Aside from Ridgewood Citizens for Reasonable Development and Concerned Residents of Ridgewood the group Friends of Schedler has also endorsed  Melanie Hooban.

“On November 2nd (and earlier by mail-in-voting), Ridgewood Residents are being asked to choose a new Village Council member. As most residents are aware, two citizens groups have long defended the Village from oversized development. Where RCRD was founded to support rational changes to our CBD, CRR members prevented Valley Hospital from overwhelming a vital Ridgewood residential district.

RCRD and CRR agree, that of the two candidates running, only Melanie Hooban has a clear and honest track record of supporting the work of RCRD and CRR. In her time on the Planning Board and working with the Master Plan Committee, as well as a long-time supporter of RCRD and CRR, Melanie Hooban has always been an outspoken advocate for protecting Ridgewood from outside interests and developers. She has the track record to prove it. Conversely, opposing candidate Paul Vagianos sided consistently with the forces of big development.
The promises he’s now making in his campaign mailers to “prevent overdevelopment” are contrary to his long history of supporting those who brought excessive development to the CBD. And if there is any doubt, look behind the veil and see how Mr. Vagianos’ campaign is backed by many of the same people and forces that tried to impose 50 units per acre zoning upon Ridgewood, and who created the overdevelopment debacle that plagued our town for a decade.

With this unexpected election for Village Council, two villagers are vying to serve out the remaining three years of the vacated term. As a result of the timing, RCRD and CRR have been unable to undertake the normal thorough vetting process for candidates and instead will rely on their track records about development. Based on her track record Ms. Hooban is the clear choice for those who believe that the needs of residents outweigh developer interests or the interests of a concentrated few. Do not be deceived by the relative calm at the Planning Board, because developers are right now eyeing our downtown for more oversized construction projects.
Both RCRD and CRR believe that Melanie Hooban is the candidate who will protect Ridgewood in the land-use battles that assuredly will come.”

  2. Paul Vagianos owns MANY properties within the CBD. He is backed by land owners and major developers of downtown Ridgewood. There plan is to overdevelop their own properties and build on all Valley properties as well. Not only is our downtown in jeopardy…The end of North Maple, Linwood avenue and Ridgewood Ave (across the duck pond) will be massive commercial and residential buildings. Think of the tax burden, congestion and packed schools coming our way.
    VOTE HOOBAN!

  6. A clear path around Saraceno. Developers are destroying the state thanks to rules by Christie, especially the “developer’s remedy” that allows them to sue towns.
