Ridgewood NJ, Trump Derangement Syndrome is a real thing. The 2024 election results have sparked a range of reactions across the U.S., but for some women, the outcome has led to deeply personal and permanent decisions. A wave of women, citing concerns about their bodily autonomy and reproductive rights, have chosen sterilization as a form of protest and self-preservation.

“Pregnancy Is Worse Than Death”: One Woman’s Choice

Eden Ixora, a 25-year-old content creator from Florida, has publicly shared her decision to undergo a bilateral salpingectomy, a procedure to remove her fallopian tubes.

“For me, the idea of getting pregnant is worse than death,” Ixora told the press. “This was a call to action—a way to lock in my autonomy so I don’t have to live in fear that some random guy could completely destroy my life.”

Ixora revealed that she was already considering the surgery but finalized her decision after the election. “I’m choosing me,” she said.

The Politics of Reproductive Autonomy

Ixora isn’t alone. Across the country, other women are making similar choices, influenced by political shifts and concerns about future restrictions on reproductive rights.

  • Lydia Echols, 28, of Texas, echoed Ixora’s sentiments, explaining her decision to undergo sterilization: “If I am to be denied rights in the next four years, I will not give them up without a fight.”
  • Another woman, speaking anonymously, described her sterilization as an unwanted but necessary decision due to the election results: “I feel like the election tied my hands and forced me to be sterilized—that is horrible.”

For many, these decisions are not just about individual choice but also a broader political statement.

A Cultural Backdrop of Resistance

The political climate has driven women to express their frustration in other ways. Movements like South Korea’s “4B” feminist protest, which rejects traditional gender roles and relationships, have gained traction on platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter). Participants pledge to forego marriage, dating, childbirth, and even sexual relationships with men.

In addition, some women have adopted symbolic gestures like shaving their heads or publicly calling for others to leave Trump-supporting partners.

Critics have mocked these efforts, with some on social media calling them “cringe” or “attention-seeking,” but for participants, these actions signify resistance to a perceived rollback of their rights.

The Debate Over Sterilization and Reproductive Rights

Reproductive rights remain a polarizing issue. Former President Donald Trump has sent mixed signals, boasting about his role in overturning Roe v. Wade while also stating he would veto a federal abortion ban, leaving the decision to individual states.

First Lady Melania Trump, however, has been vocal about her support for abortion rights, emphasizing the importance of individual freedom.

Meanwhile, the availability of abortion pills by mail has slightly increased access to abortion services, even as debates over legality and restrictions continue.

Looking Ahead

As the country grapples with these divisive issues, stories like Ixora’s and others highlight the deeply personal ways in which politics intersect with individual lives. For these women, their choices underscore a desire to take control of their futures, even in the face of uncertainty.
