Trenton NJ, an anonymous tip has brought serious allegations against Lt. Col. Sean Kilcomons, the second in command of the New Jersey State Police, sparking a formal investigation by the state’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability. The tipster claims Kilcomons made an “inappropriate and discriminatory comment” about Attorney General Matt Platkin during the annual Take Your Child to Work Day in April.
According to the anonymous letter, which was submitted due to a “well-founded fear of retaliation,” Kilcomons instructed the state police helicopter to remain airborne instead of landing, specifically stating, “I don’t want that Jew’s kid in the State Police helicopter. Tell him not to land.” This shocking allegation was first reported by the New York Post.
In response to the claims, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin released a statement expressing his dismay. He stated, “I have seen the public reports of allegations regarding the conduct of Lt. Colonel Sean Kilcomons. This conduct, if substantiated, has no place in law enforcement or anywhere in our society.” He also confirmed that he has recused himself from the investigation to ensure impartiality and that he would reserve judgment until the investigation is complete.
Platkin emphasized the importance of addressing bias and antisemitism, saying, “Too often, those in leadership feel comfortable dismissing or ignoring allegations of bias, particularly when the perpetrators hold positions of power.” He added that failing to take such allegations seriously sends a harmful message to victims who may hesitate to come forward.
Reflecting on his own experiences with antisemitic slurs, Platkin expressed a commitment to combatting hate and discrimination. “While I do not obsess over these attacks, I also do not ignore them,” he said. “I will be distraught if we allow him — and millions of kids like him — to grow up in a society where attacking someone for who they are or how they worship is accepted or condoned.”
As this investigation unfolds, it serves as a crucial reminder of the ongoing need to address and eradicate bias in all forms, especially within law enforcement agencies. The outcome will be closely watched as the community seeks accountability and justice.
