Arrest made in Ridgewood tire slashing investigation

Ridgewood NJ, Village of Ridgewood Chief Jacqueline Luthcke announced the arrest of PETER BREIGHTER (DOB: 04/06/1999; single; Produce Clerk) of Ridgewood, NJ, on charges of criminal mischief, interference of transportation, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Ridgewood Police Department.

On Sunday, January 12th, 2020, the Ridgewood Police Department received eight reports of tires being slashed. The vehicles were parked on South Pleasant Avenue, Jemco Place, South Van Dien Avenue and Spring Avenue. One vehicle was a Ridgewood Police marked patrol unit. An investigation by the Ridgewood Police Department revealed that PETER BREITER used a knife to deflate the tires while he was walking past the vehicles on Saturday, January 11th, 2020.

On Thursday, January 16, 2020, PETER BREITER was arrested in Ridgewood, NJ and charged with eight counts of Criminal Mischief, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:17-3; one count of Interference of Transportation, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:33-14, a 3rd degree crime; and one count of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a 3rd degree crime. PETER BREITER was issued complaints pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, NJ on Friday, January 31st, 2020.

Chief Luthcke commends the fine work of the Ridgewood Police Officers. She states that the charges are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
