Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is launching a multi-faceted customer courtesy campaign aimed at reminding passengers to mind their manners when riding trains, buses and light rail vehicles.
The six-week campaign, which is currently focused on our heavy rail customers, has several components including creative messages on social media, on-board postcards and posters as well as digital displays system-wide. The program campaign may extend to other NJ TRANSIT modes in future months.
“As we continue to listen to our customers, one thing we keep hearing them point out is common courtesy among fellow passengers,” said NJ TRANSIT Executive Director Veronique “Ronnie” Hakim said. “This campaign is a fun and subtle reminder that we’re all in this together and that manners matter when riding our system.”
The customer courtesy campaign will kick off Wednesday October 14th with the first of six creative messages. Each week will highlight a new theme. Customers will see postcards on seats containing a whimsical cartoon which reminds passengers by way of “Greetings from the Rude Zone.”
PHONE BOOTH – You’ve heard this person telling the most intimate or boring details of their life “confidentially” at the top of their lungs.
POTTY MOUTH – Language is a marvelous thing. It would be nice if people tried using words with more than 4 letters.
EXCESS BAGGAGE – We’ve all got baggage; usually in our minds. But sometimes we have literal baggage. You’ve seen people using the aisles and seats of the train or bus like it’s the conveyor belt at the airport.
TRAVELING DJ – You’ve seen this guy…at least you’ve heard him. He may have headphones on, but his tunes are leaking out of his head all over the bus or train.
FOOT LOOSE – This person thinks they’re sitting in a lounge chair. The rule of thumb is: head up, feet down.
COASTLINE CLIPPER – Personal grooming is important. But it’s best done at home. You’ve seen this guy trimming his nails, nasal hair, cleaning ear wax…yuck!
The campaign’s social media component will utilize such platforms as Facebook and Twitter to emphasize each week’s message. Customers will be able to join the conversation using the hashtag #RudeZone.
NJ TRANSIT has conducted similar courtesy campaigns in 2001-2002 and 2006-2007.

TOP PHYSICIST FREEMAN DYSON: OBAMA HAS PICKED THE ‘WRONG SIDE’ ON CLIMATE CHANGE
The climate models used by alarmist scientists to predict global warming are getting worse, not better; carbon dioxide does far more good than harm; and President Obama has backed the “wrong side” in the war on “climate change.”
So says one of the world’s greatest theoretical physicists, Dr Freeman Dyson (pictured above), the British-born, naturalised American citizen who worked at Princeton University as a contemporary of Einstein and has advised the US government on a wide range of scientific and technical issues.
In an interview with Andrew Orlowski of The Register, Dyson expressed his despair at the current scientific obsession with climate change which he says is “not a scientific mystery but a human mystery. How does it happen that a whole generation of scientific experts is blind to the obvious facts.”
This mystery, says Dyson, can only partly be explained in terms of follow the money. Also to blame, he believes, is a kind of collective yearning for apocalyptic doom.

When you are a research physician and a registered pharmacist who works as a medical director, you must certainly dream of what your progeny will become: surgeon, physicist, medical mogul?
When Wes Hauptman told his parents, Dr. Jonathan Hauptman and Cindy Starr, he wanted to be a comedian, they didn’t laugh; they told him, “That sounds good. Let’s find some classes you can take.”
“If they didn’t believe I can do it they would not have supported my choice,” the 21-year-old Emerson College senior says. They’re very supportive.”
So is his sister, Emily, who is also an Emerson student and also a comedian. “She got me into this,” says Wes. “She said ‘just try it. Just do it.'”
“I was always funny,” he says matter-of-factly in answer to a question. Growing up in Ridgewood, he had a brief history with Ridgewood High School New Players. “I had a very, very tiny role,” he recalls, “one line in a 2-hour show. Once I was an ugly, awkward nerd. But basically, it made me hungrier to perform.”
In his sophomore year at Emerson in Boston he was a TV producer major. “I started stand-up,” says the young man who writes his own material.
The summer before his junior year, Wes started looking for an internship, sending emails “all over the place.” He heard from the director of new talent at the Gotham Club in New York City who gave him an offer for that summer, Appearing there twice, he says, “I did a 6-minute set. I have some stage fright; but after I get started and people are laughing I feel comfortable.” He wrote to audition for AXS TV Live at Gotham – and was the youngest among 12 to be invited to audition. “I didn’t get it, but I think I will be invited again,” he says.

Most people on the autism spectrum are extremely intelligent; but they are wired differently. They have a hard time expressing themselves. My hope is that as awareness increases, the general public will be able to give autistic people opportunities that celebrate their unique talents.”

“Jaws of Life” deployed to extricate a driver and three (3) dogs from Oradell Avenue Crash Sight

Oradell NJ, Oradell and Paramus Fire Department and Rescue Squad personnel worked side-by-side using the “Jaws of Life” to extricate a driver and three (3) dogs from a wrecked 4-door BMW sedan that had collided with a pickup truck at the intersection of Forest and Oradell Avenues in Oradell late (11:15 PM) Friday (10/16) night.
The BMW’s driver was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to The Valley Hospital; the occupants of the pickup truck were uninjured. All of the dogs in the BMW escaped injury. They were taken to a shelter in Midland Park operated by Tyco Animal Control Services. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck. Oradell PD is investigating the crash, which, surprisingly, did not result in a full closure of the Forest Avenue/Oradell Avenue intersection.

Brush up on your bonjour and bonsoir so you can greet any of the French band members and/or their families who might be sauntering the village streets this weekend.
Thirty members of L’Harmonie La Croix Valmer are leaving their village in southeastern France to spend time in ours. They are here to perform with the Ridgewood Concert Band (RCB) on Sunday evening at West Side Presbyterian Church. It’s old stuff – they’ve done it before; but no less exciting for the players involved.
RCB started out as a village band in 1983. One of its founders, Chris Wilhjelm, had wanted to assemble a concert band of adults to play challenging literature. “A group of adults playing for the joy of mastering the music,” was his dream.
“Our goal was unique,” states Wilhjelm. “We tried to be a community band with a mission a little different from other community bands in our area. We programmed serious literature right from the very beginning.”
Their repertoire and their reputation grew. “We have a reputation for playing high-end literature,” he can say today. “Our programming is as ambitious and aggressive as the finest professional conservatory ensembles in the country.”
The concert, Sunday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at West Side Presbyterian Church, will be performed by the RCB, with Dr. Chris Wilhjelm and L’Harmonie, with Jean-Luc Wastable and will feature the music of Saint-Saëns, Sousa, and Giroux. L’Harmonie will be performing a wide range of pieces from the French Can Can (Offenbach) to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” with a trumpet soloist. A highlight of the program will be the RCB’s performance of Camille Saint-Saens’ “Hail! California,” which was written for the Panama-Pacific Exposition held in San Francisco in 1915. Arranger Peter Stanley Martin will speak about bringing this classic back to life at a Pre-Concert Talk at 6 p.m. (This event is free with concert ticket).
Ridgewood NJ, Ridgewood Police report that on Sunday, October 11, 2015, a Corsa Terrace resident reported that his/her computer had been hacked resulting in his/her identity being stolen. The victim, who had implemented a program to improve his/her computer’s performance and remove viruses, was contacted by a male caller claiming to represent “Celox Support”. The caller persuaded the victim to allow him remote access to his/her computer and credit card account information.
It is suggested that consumers provide credit card account information only after positively verifying that they are dealing with a legitimate service provider. The Ridgewood Police Department is also aware that this is a very popular scam at this time and residents should always be wary of someone contacting them by phone and offering to “fix” computer problems.
Wow – great post. The “civility” assault, as the poster mentions, either shuts the potential dissenter up completely, or spins him/her up into a fury at the sheer chutzpah it takes to engage in such hypocrisy. Both reactions suit the purposes of the “civility” advocator, the first because it squelches dissent, the second because it allows the person who reacts with frustration to be singled out and portrayed as an angry rabble-rouser unfit to be listened to in the first instance. Meanwhile those of us who try the cool and calm approach tend to fade into the woodwork. Come to think if it, this is also favorable from the standpoint of the “civility” advocator. Killing three dissenting birds with one rhetorical stone–pretty impressive. Who the hell comes up with this stuff (cough, cough…Alinsky…)?
What about Albert stating that he was the only one with a full time job? The old “I’m more important than you are” bullying tactic. And then there is Gwenn reprimanding the audience for laughing or clapping – sorry folks, no emotions can be displayed, not humor, not happiness. Never In these meetings have I hear a booing from the crowd – it has always been positive assent in the form of applause or humorous laughter. Pretty civil as far as I can see it, and yet Miss Prim and Proper reprimands the group.
How about the Mike Sedon email affair? The three of them did NOTHING AT ALL until they were pushed and pressured to do so by a member of the public. Then, under great duress, Aronsohn sent the weakest most anemic email to the editor of the Staten Island Advance asking about the email that had been sent over a year prior. Of course the SI Advance editor said sorry, he no longer has the email. The three of them should have stood up from the very beginning in complete and total outrage against this blatant attempt to interfere with our election system. But, there was nothing from them. It was as if they could not care at all. We know, yes we KNOW that the email was sent by someone who really really REALLY did not want Mike Sedon to run for office. This was the most outrageous bullying episode yet to date, worse than any name calling. Even if on the remote chance that Aronsohn-Pucciarelli-or-Hauck did not send the letter, they should have been strong and determined to get to the bottom of that mess. But, bullies do not give a good god-damn who they hurt along the way, as long as they get their way. How in the world do they sleep at night?
I could not agree with this post more. They are attempting to tackle major issues that will FOREVER change our town. Regardless of where you stand on each issue (Schedler, parking garage, multi-family housing, sr. assisted living facility) they each deserve a full and detailed public hearing similar to what happened with Valley. Each one should have all the experts testify and be open to council and public questions during normal meeting hours. By trying to fit everything into one meeting that lasts into the early morning hours they are daring citizens into an episode of Survivor just to stay informed. This is a shameful practice that needs to be stopped.
Some will argue that we need to move forward and not have prolonged hearings. I think a fully informed public and full vetting of the issues so we can make the CORRECT decisions are more important than making A decision quickly.

Israel’s ambassador to the UN claims Palestinian children are being “taught to hate” as violent clashes continue in the West Bank.
Palestinian children are being “brainwashed” with “incitement and hate”, according to an Israeli spokesman.
Danny Danon, Israel’s new ambassador to the United Nations, is urging the Security Council to make a statement against what he described as “the incitement that fuels terror”.
His speech comes amid an increase in violence in the Middle East with eight Israelis killed in Palestinian attacks, mostly stabbings, in the past month.
In the same period, 34 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire. Israel has described 17 of those as attackers, while the rest died in clashes with Israeli troops.
During his speech, Mr Danon held up a piece of card with a diagram of a human body entitled “How to Stab a Jew”, which he claims is “an example of what Palestinian children are being exposed to day in and day out, in school, after school”.

A zombie title is a title to real property that happens when a lender initiates foreclosure proceedings by issuing a notice of foreclosure and then unexpectedly dismisses the foreclosure.
If the person is unaware of the foreclosure dismissal, he or she will be left holding a zombie title. A lender may decide to dismiss the foreclosure for a variety of reasons, including a surplus of inventory, if the costs associated with a foreclosure cannot justify its costs or if the lender does not want to take possession of the home.

It’s been a weird year for politics, Save Jerseyans. But as much as some things change, others things definitely do not. At all.
Let’s reflect briefly on the respective trajectories of two politicians: Bernie Sanders and Anthony Cappola.
Bernie is leading the Democrat field in New Hampshire and threatening Hillary Clinton in the other early states. The Left is fawning over him and treating the badly-worn and awkward New England socialist as some species sage for having regurgitated decades-old discredited ideas. “Incredibly charming” is just one of the many descriptions you’ll find on the liberal net.

Less charming? His 1972 essay for theVermont Freeman on the subject of gang rape fantasies. “A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy. A woman on her knees, a woman tied up, a woman abused,” Sanders opined. “A woman enjoys intercourse with her man — as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously.”
Yikes! Yet Democrat reactions have ranged from total disinterest to verbal shrugs.
At least New Jersey Assembly candidate Cappola was trying to be funny in his online published book Outrageous, a tome chock full of allegedly racist, misogynistic, homophobic, and objectively strange “satire.” But his youthful incident of presumably isolated idiocy ended in a resignation from the LD38 ticket reportedly at the prompting of GOP officials, not a liberal blogger story complimenting his “charming” novel, and the collapse of what should’ve been the GOP’s top 2015 target based on the 2013 results has reopened Republican wounded inside and outside of Bergen County.

Children as young as seven are developing hunchbacks and curved spines because of the hours spent bending over smart phones and tablets, a chiropractor has claimed.
Dr James Carter warned that he had seen an “alarming increase” in the condition, which he called “text neck”.
