With John Boehner now departing as House speaker, an influential Republican Party official is now seeking the ouster of another GOP leader who has frustrated conservatives: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
“McConnell needs to resign!!” Louisiana GOP Chairman Roger Villere wrote in a Facebook posting.
Mr. Villere isn’t just any Republican. He’s the longest-serving state GOP chairman in the nation, with 12 years on the job, and is the vice chairman of the Republican National Committee, the GOP’s national governing body. He also serves on the RNC’s executive committee that makes decisions alongside Chairman Reince Priebus.
“Mitch is a good and honorable guy, but the base is leaving our party,” Mr. Villere said in an interview with The Washington Times. “I’m out in the field all the time and we have all our elections this year for state offices, and it’s hurting us tremendously with our elections.”
Aides for Mr. McConnell, Kentucky Republican, did not return repeated calls and emails seeking comment. A spokeswoman for Mr. Priebus said he was unavailable Sunday.

Sunday’s supermoon eclipse will last 1 hour and 11 minutes, and will be visible to North and South America, Europe, Africa, and parts of West Asia and the eastern Pacific. Weather permitting, you can see the supermoon after nightfall, and the eclipse will cast it into shadow beginning at 8:11 p.m. EDT. The total eclipse starts at 10:11 p.m. EDT, peaking at 10:47 p.m. EDT.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican Party’s conservative wing, pumped up by House Speaker John Boehner’s stepping down, is warning the 2016 presidential candidates that defying its wishes will come at their peril.
Religious activists forcefully conveyed this message Saturday: embrace our uncompromising stance against abortion rights and gay marriage, among other priorities, even if doing so risks a federal government shutdown.
An emboldened conservative movement signals fresh trouble for White House candidates viewed by the party’s frustrated base as insufficiently committed to their cause. Chief among them is former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
“Conservatives are on fire at the moment,” said Gary Bauer, a former president of the Family Research Council. He was among the featured speakers at the Values Voter annual conference that brought an estimated 2,000 evangelical activists to Washington this weekend.
Boehner’s announcement that he would resign from Congress by the end of October came without warning Friday, nearly four months before voting begins in the presidential primary. His decision revealed a deep divide within the GOP that raises questions about the party’s ability to unite behind one candidate next spring.
Hard-line conservatives were deeply disappointed with the last two Republican presidential nominees – former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Arizona Sen. John McCain. Boehner was unpopular among conservative activists, and his resignation will give them new hope that the party may choose a candidate who energizes the most passionate voters, even if that nominee is seen as less attractive to a general election crowd.
A co-founder of the tea party movement said Boehner was just another of the establishment figures taken down by frustrated conservatives. “Today, the insurgency is more emboldened than ever and looks to even further dominate the presidential elections in 2016,” said Mark Meckler. “Our influence is growing.”

Will American Dream Meadowlands be a nightmare for North Jersey malls?
With the recent news that the long-delayed shopping and entertainment complex had signed Hermes as a tenant and lured the luxury brand away from The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack, American Dream is looking more like a reality.
But retail experts are betting the existing malls in Bergen and Passaic counties will be able to hold their own against the untested newcomer. While North Jersey shopping centers may have to evolve, they said, there is enough spending power in the region to withstand competition from a new project, even one that claims it will be unlike any other mall.
North Jersey shopping centers — particularly top performers Westfield Garden State Plaza and The Outlets at Bergen Town Center, both in Paramus, and Willowbrook Mall in Wayne — have an advantage as known revenue producers, unlike a project that was stalled for more than a decade.
The developers of American Dream have said since taking over in 2011 that their project — with an indoor water park, amusement rides, ice rink and concert hall — is so different that it won’t compete with, or steal tenants, from traditional North Jersey malls, and that it will draw visitors from all over the world, rather than just New Jersey. However, the news that Hermes is leaving Hackensack for the Meadowlands raises the question of whether the the area’s malls should be concerned.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton stopped in North Jersey on Thursday night and left having raised about $350,000 for her campaign from a crowd that included some of the state’s most powerful Democrats.
Clinton, a former Secretary of State, was hosted by Michael Kempner and his wife, Jacqueline, at their Cresskill home. Michael Kempner heads East Rutherford-based MWW Public Relations, one of the largest marketing and public relations firms in the state, and was a top fundraiser for Clinton’s failed 2008 campaign for the White House. The Kempners also hosted President Obama in 2010 and Vice President Joseph Biden in 2011.
On Thursday night, Clinton mingled with the crowd and posed for photos with about 50 guests. She then spoke for about 20 to 30 minutes, touching on a wide range of issues – education, the environment, drug addiction, transportation and issues affecting women and children. She also took a shot at Republicans, telling donors and guests that the GOP is “going from the party of Lincoln to the party of Trump,” Kempner said, referring to the businessman-cum-Republican frontrunner Donald Trump.

“The American people are frustrated with Washington, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the people’s House to select leadership that expands opportunity for all, puts hardworking American families first, and has strong principles that represent everyone,” said Garrett (R-5th Dist.).
Garrett praised Boehner (R-Ohio), who announced his resignation Friday, as “a dedicated public servant” and wished him “all the best as he begins his next endeavor in life.”

BOE addresses union leader’s statements
To the Editor:
Mike Yannone, Ridgewood Education Association (REA) president, made several erroneous statements at the Sept. 21 Ridgewood Board of Education meeting that warrant response.
* A $2.5 million tax burden is being placed on teachers.
It is not a tax. State law known as “Chapter 78,” phased in over four years, requires that all public employees contribute towards their health benefits. The $2.5 million is the sum of this year’s contribution.
* The board passed a resolution to remove collective bargaining rights for teachers and did not provide it to the public.
Last March, the board approved a resolution asking that Chapter 78 be excluded from negotiations. This resolution was posted on the board and superintendent’s web pages at ridgewood.k12.nj.us within 24 hours of the board approving the meeting minutes.
* Contract negotiations are stalled due to a highly paid RBOE attorney spokesperson.
The RBOE has included an attorney on its negotiating team for over 15 years. He is an experienced, reasonably priced attorney. The REA’s negotiating team includes a NJEA representative. The REA collects over $650,000 annually from its members. Some of this money is used to pay NJEA for this service.
* The settlement of the contract is not the top board goal.
This is untrue. On Sept. 21, the RBOE approved a goal “to negotiate with the REA to settle a new contract.” It is a priority for this year.
* The district says its financial hands are tied, which is disrespectful to teachers.
The district’s annual budget is capped at 2 percent on the amount the tax levy can be increased. Law mandates this and it is the reality under which we operate. Disrespecting our staff is not part of the equation. We honor and appreciate the fine work of our staff.
* Each year the board hires new administrators who are doing less work.
In 2008, the board was forced to reduce administrative positions when all categorical state aid was cut. Over the last three years, we have rebuilt our administrative team. We have reinstated five administrators and added 33 teachers. Every staff member — administrators, teachers and support staff — are doing more work, not less.
Mr. Yannone asked if the RBOE was going to Atlantic City again at taxpayers’ expense. Yes, the Board of Education will attend the NJSBA workshop in October. Board members are the only New Jersey elected officials legally required to receive training. Workshop provides this training and opportunities to learn about best practices and hone leadership skills. The district pays for registration and accommodations.
The RBOE has high regard for our talented teaching staff and secretaries. The partnership with our teachers is a longstanding one that values their input in improving education for our students. In negotiating a contract, the board is mindful of the financial reality and tasked to balance this reality with the need to fairly compensate our teachers.
Dear Council Member,
I am a citizen and a voter of Ridgewood and am writing to urge you to “Vote No” to the high-density housing ordinances on September 30th.
A “Yes” vote risks diminishing our quality of life forever, creating urban-scaled developments that are entirely inconsistent with our town’s size and character.
For generations Ridgewood has taken great pains to protect the small town character of our community by smart zoning in both our business and residential districts. In one night, on September 30th, the Village Council could destroy the legacy and the trust of all these generations.
Amending the master plan to truly “spot zone” at the requests of a few developers is a mistake. And despite some council-member’s baseless claims of widespread support for high density zoning, it is NOT supported by a majority of residents. This was clearly evidenced by the landslide wins in the last council election for the two candidates who spoke openly against the high-density amendment.
The ordinances should be rejected because they will:
Forever change the small town feel of Ridgewood;
Potentially add too many kids to our schools, which are already full to capacity;
Worsen our existing parking and traffic crisis;
Risk increasing our excessive property taxes, if the developments do not succeed financially, or if more children live there than you estimated;
Over stress our limited water supply and aging infrastructure;
Overburden our maxed out ballfields and open spaces; and
Result in a cascade of me-too lawsuits from neighboring property owners who similarly wish to benefit from the profits to be attained from building a 35 unit per acre development in the Central Business District.
The Planning Board never did any comprehensive independent study on these changes. They relied far too heavily on biased data provided by developers. On the Council’s end, you have not done any financial studies (which are now allowed at the Planning Board level), to better gauge impacts on the Village. You don’t know the full impacts. As such, approvals on 9/30 will be reckless.
I will be paying close attention to YOUR VOTE on this crucial issue, which will strongly influence MY VOTE in the coming election.
Please do the right thing — stand with the overwhelming majority of citizens who oppose this risky plan and VOTE NO to the ordinances as they stand now.
Parkmobile’s website says – “Parkmobile is the payment solution and does not own or manage the area in which you park. As such, we do not determine whether or not parking is free [Note: meaning whether parking at the time you are accessing the Parkmobile app, or initiating a “pay by phone” request, is actually free; e.g., before/after metered hours, Sunday, legal holiday]. In some cases, your local parking authority instructs us to code our system for free parking. Please note that transaction fees charged by Parkmobile are assessed any time you activate or extend a parking session. If you are creating a session and see that the charge only includes your transaction fee, parking may be free.”
This statement begs the Staff of The Ridgewood Blog to ask the following: Has the Village of Ridgewood instructed Parkmobile to “code” their system with the times, days, and dates on which parking in each specific Ridgewood zone is free. For example, if a user accesses the Parkmobile app in any Ridgewood zone on a Sunday, is the Parkmobile transaction charge the only charge that shows up, or is an hourly parking rate posted as well? What about parking at meters after 6:00 PM? And how will the free shopper parking during “Downtown for the Holidays” be handled?
We would appreciate feedback from any Parkmobile users regarding this issue.

Ridgewood NJ, The Ridgewood Exxon station on Godwin Ave. is closing.
Station sold to Citizen Bank. Interesting, the station was closed last year to replace the gas tanks. Just what we need, another bank. But this one will have 3 drive-thru teller windows.
Sign at the gas station says effective October 1st., the parking lot is to be closed.
So, that affects 45 parking spots commuters use for the train.
If the Ken Smith dealership becomes housing, that eliminated 80 to 100 spots for Ridgewood workers w/ special passes.
Hudson Street becomes a parking deck. During the 3 years constructions, that eliminated 120 spots temporarily. Toss in Brogan Cadillac parking spots, if that becomes housing, we have have a total of non-usable parking of approx. 300 spots.
Here’s what we need to do.
All neighborhoods around the train station and even the Ridgewood Park & Ride, do not allow commuter parking on the streets except a few areas.Home owners complain they don’t want cars parked in front of their houses all day.
Time to stop complaining.
I live across from one of the town schools and the teachers park on each side of the street. Should we ban that because they’re on my street?
So, don’t you think by opening up streets for commuter parking, can make parking for those wanting to shop in town better?
Here’s what I’m proposing.
Those current spots near mass transit, are moved a block or 2 further away. ( Where they are not currently allowed)Then the current commuter spots become shoppers spots.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett and other members of the conservative Freedom Caucus said Friday that they would not vote for a spending bill that includes funding for Planned Parenthood, a position that could lead to the second federal government shutdown in three years.
Garrett (R-5th Dist.) is a founding member of the caucus of House Republicans and opposed the re-election of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).
“Given the appalling revelations surrounding Planned Parenthood, we cannot in good moral conscience vote to send taxpayer money to this organization while still fulfilling our duty to represent our constituents,” the caucus said in a statement. “We must therefore oppose any spending measure that contains funding for Planned Parenthood.”
September 25, 2015 2:56 PM Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) will be the next target of conservatives frustrated with party leadership, according to one of the conservative representatives who pressured House speaker John Boehner in the weeks leading up to his resignation. “Next guy in the crosshairs will probably be McConnell,” Representative Matt Salmon (R., Ariz.) said in a text message to Senator Mike Lee (R., Utah), according to National Journal’s Sarah Mimms. Lee replied that he doubts that will happen.
Still, Salmon’s speculation reflects a theory of Boehner’s struggles that is common among the outgoing speaker’s friends and foes alike — that his unpopularity among the grassroots stems more from McConnell’s failure to take advantage of the Senate majority than anything House Republicans have done. If that’s true, then Boehner’s departure can hardly be expected to ease the tensions between GOP leadership and the conservative base or preempt more leadership fights in the future. “People are frustrated with out Republican leadership, with Boehner and McConnell, and it’s not usually the third or fourth question that comes up — it’s the first question that comes up,” Representative Marlin Stutzman (R., Ind.), who voted against Boehner in January, told National Review last week. “It’s happening at tea-party events, but it’s [also] happened at Republican breakfasts, it’s happening at donor meetings — there’s a deep frustration.”
