See someone on the train you’d like to date? NameTag, an upcoming app for Android, iOS, and Google Glass uses facial recognition technology to match passersby to their social-media and dating info.

Soon your face could be your calling card. An upcoming app for Android, iOS, and Google Glass called NameTag will allow you to photograph strangers and find out who they are — complete with social networking and online dating profiles.
Spot someone out and about that you want to identify, and you can capture their face using your device’s camera. The app will send the photo wirelessly to NameTag’s server, where it will compare the photo to millions of online records and return with a name, more photos, and social-media profiles, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, where the person (or their friends) might have publicly posted photos of themselves.
And, if you’re interested in that person in a more-than-passing fashion, the app’s creator — FacialNetwork — is working on technology that will allow scanning of profile pictures on online dating sites, such as Plenty of Fish, OKCupid, and Match.com.

About 1.3 million Americans rang in 2014 with a loss of long-term unemployment benefits, due to Congress’ failure to renew the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program before its Dec. 28 expiration.
Gene Sperling, a top economic adviser to President Barack Obama and director of the National Economic Council, is pushing Congress to extend the benefits. The Senatepassed the measure Tuesday, but the House is not considered likely to follow suit.
To receive the benefits, the law requires that people actively look for jobs. On CNN’s State of the Union, Candy Crowley suggested that some people may be able to game the system. Sperling pushed back against that idea, emphasizing that a large majority of the unemployed are honestly trying to find jobs in a tough economy.
“Most of the people are desperately looking for jobs,” he said. “You know, our economy still has three people looking for every job (opening).”

Jackson claims “Lonegan’s in-your-face campaigning style helped him cut down what was expected to be a more lopsided losing margin in last year’s U.S. Senate race against Democrat Cory Booker. But that could be a tough sell in the district, which includes many military families and several large townships dominated by retirement communities. ”
Really is that why Lonegan garnered more votes than then Mitt Romney state wide in a off year election mind you and particularly in District 3 with overwhelming support of military personnel and the 65 and over crowd who still remember what a great country this once was .
Jackson points out his carpet bagger status , but that didn’t hurt Hillary in New York State and given the political land scape in New Jersey its a bit late for that criticism . Lonegans District 3 predecessor a former Philadelphia Eagle was tarred with that very claim . At lest Lonegan is from the same state .
Jackson then goes on to degrade the Tea Party which were the very people who gave both his predecessor Rep. Jon Runyan and himself big victories in the district .My favorite digg is his supposed lack of support by local “republicans” . Funny is that why Chris Christie himself is hosting a $1000 a plate fund raiser for Lonegan and using his very own mailing list .
We all know the Bergen Record went to great lengths keeping from the public the terrible record of our Senator in hiding then mayor of Newark Cory Booker ,and of coarse we see no questioning of Booker by the media on charges of corruption in Newark , the sky rocketing murder rate , horrible over priced schools and of coarse his head long support for Obamacare which has lead to over 800,000 people losing their healthcare in the state of New Jersey ?
While we do not expect papers like the Record to come clean we do at lest expect the Record to pretend its somewhat unbiased and give in to the pretense that it is attempting to report news instead of being a propaganda tool for the Democratic party and its allies .
Ridgewood revives bid to limit smoking

RIDGEWOOD — The Village Council this week will continue to discuss extending the ban on smoking in public parks to sidewalks that run adjacent to Board of Education and The Valley Hospital properties.
Talks on the issue began early last month, after similar requests from Ridgewood Schools Superintendent Dan Fishbein and Audrey Meyers, the hospital president.
“The purpose of the … ban would be to allow students to walk to and from school without having to deal with secondhand smoke,” Mayor Paul Aronsohn said.

I don’t think that anyone opposing amendments to the Master Plan favors keeping a vacant car dealership. Those opposed to development in town whether by Valley or by real estate developers oppose special interests misrepresenting the impact of their proposed projects.
Developers told us with a straight face that putting in hundreds of apartments will have no negative impact on traffic and will put no additional children into the school system. Seems like a follow up study would be in order before we break ground.
And then there’s Valley and their parade of “experts” claiming among other things that 1,000 additional parking spaces will not result in any additional traffic. Valley has been lying to us for so long that they and their obnoxious attorney have resorted to simply shouting down anyone that questions them or proposes an alternative to their tired and over baked expansion plan.
This town’s lack of vision and leadership has led us the the mercy of these special interests who are in business to make money for themselves and their shareholders. Period. It is not their job to care about any negative impact their project might have on the town. It has become clear that our public officials have neither the political will nor the inclination to stand up to these special interests. Let’s hope that our friends and neighbors have the stamina to insist on better treatment until we can get a couple of competent people into office.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, a likely Democratic Party standard-bearer in the 2016 presidential contest, staked out her military-related positions in the 2008 race based on how they would play politically, according to a former secretary of defense who served in both the Obama and Bush administrations.
Describing a ‘remarkable’ exchange he witnessed, Robert Gates writes in a book due out next week that ‘Hillary told the president that her opposition to the [2007] surge in Iraq had been political because she was facing him in the Iowa primary.’
Obama, too, ‘conceded vaguely that [his] opposition to the Iraq surge had been political,’ Gates recounts. ‘To hear the two of them making these admissions, and in front of me, was as surprising as it was dismaying.’
And Gates recounts how, as the president lost faith in Gen. David Petraeus’ handling of hostilities in Afghanistan, he – Gates – lost faith in Obama’s commitment to accomplishing much of anything.
‘As I sat there,’ he recalls, ‘I thought: The president doesn’t trust his commander, can’t stand [President Hamid] Karzai, doesn’t believe in his own strategy and doesn’t consider the war to be his.’
PSE&G Customers Urged to Conserve Electricity During Record-breaking Cold
Frigid Weather Pushes Electricity Use Higher

(NEWARK, NJ – Jan. 7, 2014) – Due to frigid weather conditions and increased electric demand, PSE&G customers are asked to conserve electricity, if health permits, especially from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. this evening.
The conservation request is being made to electric utilities throughout the region by PJM Interconnection, the electricity grid operator for more than 61 million people in 13 states and the District of Columbia. PJM continues to carefully monitor power supplies, and will do everything possible to keep power flowing in the region. If necessary, PJM will take additional steps, such as reducing voltage.
To conserve energy, customers can follow these simple steps:
Set thermostats lower than usual, if health permits.
Postpone using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers until mid-day or after 9 p.m., when the demand for electricity decreases.
Turn off electric lights and appliances that you do not need or are not using.
PSE&G’s all-time peak winter demand for electricity was 7,195 megawatts set on February 5, 2007. Although today’s projected peak will be close, the utility does not expect to exceed the all-time demand.

Even before the state Civil Service Commission has completed action on one of Gov. Chris Christie’s pet projects, altering employee job protections, Assembly Democrats have declared any such action unconstitutional.
With the commission scheduled to hold a hearing next month on its plan to group jobs together in “bands,” the Assembly voted 48-31 along party lines on a resolution prohibiting or invalidating such a change. (Tyrrell/NJSpotlight)

During our discussion, we planned on sending e-mails to our own representatives and others in Congress regarding:
1) Opposition to the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and
2) support for the religious freedom section to the National Defense Authorization Act 2014 (NDAA 2014), which strengthens the requirement for the military to accommodate the religious beliefs of military people and speech based on such beliefs. It also requires the Department of Defense in implementing this provision to consult with “the official military faith-group representatives who endorse military chaplains”.
The White House has already expressed its opposition to Section 530 as well as other unrelated items in the bill. Presumably, Democratic Senators and Congressmen will be under pressure to oppose Section 530, so we might send e-mails to some of them, as well.

In a recent letter dated January 6th Superintendent Daniel Fishbein went to great lenghts to outline his reasoning for the discontinuance of outside vendor lunch deliveries to the schools.
Fishbein cited three main issues with out side food deliveries : 1) delivery vehicles are often parked illegally ,2) strangers coming in and out of the building and 3) meal delivery causes clutter and is often disruptive to classes.
Fishbien said he recognized it was an inconvenience but that the disruption and safety issued out weighted .
The RHS Department of Fine & Applied Arts has mounted a showing of alumni artwork created after graduating from RHS. The exhibit may be viewed in the Carroll Art Gallery, Room 137, until Friday, January 10. An artists’ reception will be held on Wednesday, January 8 from 3- 5 p.m.
All students, alumni, friends, family and staff are invited to the reception as well as to view the exhibition. The Gallery is open during school hours.
