Ridgewood NJ, Selected pictures from yesterdays Veterans Day Ceremonies at Veterans Field in Ridgewood.
The focus of this year’s ceremony was the Korean War. The Master of Ceremonies was Bob Paoli, Commander of American Legion Post 53; The National Anthem was sung by the Harmony Celebration Chorus; Reverand Kyu Tae Pak, Midland Park United Methodist Church opened the ceremonies with a prayer; Ridgewood Mayor Paul Aronsohn made opening remarks; Sgt. 1st Class Ron Zier spoke about the Korean War and his service there; Retired HoHoKus Police Chief Robert Re spoke about the war and his service in Korea at that time; veterans in the audience were honored for their military service, and Sally Ann Tumas-Skoric sang “God Bless America” with the audience joining in. Many students from Benjamin Franklin Middle School and Ridgewood High School were in the audience.

When Ridgewood executes its Wing-T offense with precision, Jamal Locke is as much a magician as he is a quarterback.
Locke’s sleight of hand deceives defenses into chasing Tim Bonanno or Cooper Telesco one way, only to find that the senior has handed it to Jake Sabatini or Jack Foresman the other way. Or maybe Locke didn’t hand off at all and is headed a different way.
But it hasn’t been all mirages and misdirections on the team’s road to its 8-0 start.
Locke’s success throwing to his receivers, especially tight end Connor Van Caugherty, has been a crucial counterbalance to the ground attack.

Ridgewood NJ, Village of Ridgewood 2013 Veterans Day services began at 11 AM on Monday on Veterans Field in Ridgewood. The ceremony was coordinated by members of American Legion Post 53 based in Ridgewood. This year’s event was held, as always, to honor all veterans, but especially those from the Korean War era military.
North Jersey towns’ Super Bowl parties may lack the Super brand

Secaucus hopes to attract thousands of people to its Super Bowl event. If everything goes right, the celebration — planned for Buchmuller Park, just four miles from MetLife Stadium — will include an ice skating rink, food trucks, a beer garden, ice sculptures, warming stations, synchronized swimmers and a black tie ball.
What the celebration may not have is any official connection to the Super Bowl or the National Football League.
Largely because local officials have found it so difficult to find businesses to help pay for the event without violating the strict sponsorship rules of the NFL and the Super Bowl Host Committee, Secaucus Mayor Michael Gonnelli said, his town probably will avoid the league altogether.
New Mental Health Mandate Will Make Obamacare More Expensive, Increase Fraud And Canceled Policies
Even as stories pour in of Americans facing steeply higher health insurance premiums and canceled coverage, Team TISI 0% Obama just imposed new regulations that will make those problems worse. It’s almost like they can’t help themselves.
On Friday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced new regulations mandating health insurers cover mental and behavioral health to the same extent they cover physical health care
A “mental health parity” mandate was passed by Congress in 2008, but Obama officials claim health insurers aren’t fully complying. (You’ll just have to overlook the irony of the Obama administration, which has postponed several provisions of Obamacare without any legal authority to do so, complaining that others aren’t complying with some law.)
The more likely explanation is the administration is desperately trying to redirect peoples’ attention from the Obamacare rollout that has become a non-stop string of stories about failed websites, higher premiums and canceled policies.
President Obama’s latest effort to divert public attention ignores a fundamental problem: it’s much easier to know when a broken bone has healed than a broken mind. That ambiguity opens the door to overtreatment and fraud.

The torrents of Affordable Care Act monsoon season aren’t letting up, so Democrats are scrambling to help the victims: namely, their own careers. The Senators up for re-election in competitive states in 2014 are starting to panic, though they still aren’t offering solutions for anything other than their own growing political jeopardy.
Fifteen Senate Democrats plus Colorado’s Michael Bennet who chairs the Senatorial Campaign Committee sat down at the White House Wednesday, and they want all and sundry to know that they let President Obama have it. Alaska’s Mark Begich put out a statement saying he chewed out the big cheese for “absolutely unacceptable” mismanagement and “an understandable crisis in confidence.” He must have drafted it in advance.
Oregon’s Jeff Merkley chimed in to report that even after the two-hour encounter session that was not on the public schedule, he was still “very frustrated” and “I remain deeply convinced that this is a ‘show-me’ moment.” Asked by Politico if Democrats were losing credibility, an anonymous attendee said, “You got to have it, to lose it.”
Ridgewood accepts grant funds for ramp at Habernickel Park

After touring the interior of the former horse barn at the Irene Habernickel Family Park, Ridgewood council members agreed that they will accept a 2013 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to fund up to $60,000 for the installation of an accessibility ramp leading from the parking lot to the building.
The council is also expected to approve a feasibility study to determine the stability and usefulness of the barn.
Council members had been on the fence about the future of the vacant barn, which was last used by the Habernickel family to care for their horses. They also questioned the construction of a ramp, which could potentially lead to a structure that may eventually require demolition. Recent site visits, however, changed the council’s tune.
Landscaping gear stolen in Ridgewood

An attempted theft of a landscaper’s equipment last week has local police departments investigating that incident as well as a rash of similar burglaries in the past two weeks.
The most recent theft took place last Tuesday afternoon, when authorities in Ridgewood and Glen Rock unsuccessfully pursued an individual observed trying to steal a backpack leaf blower from a trailer. The trailer had been parked and left unattended along Norwood Avenue in Glen Rock while landscapers worked at nearby properties.
According to police, the chase began at around 12:30 p.m. when landscapers saw an unknown man attempting to remove a leaf blower from the company vehicle. The suspect fled without the blower after one of the workers confronted him.
A K-9 unit from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit of the suspect, but the individual managed to elude apprehension. Authorities in Glen Rock are investigating the case, according to Ridgewood Detective Chris McDowell.
Ridgewood detectives were already probing at least five other theft or attempted theft cases, with each of those incidents reported within a 10-day period late last month by various landscaping companies.
Early numbers show 3% enrollment in Obamacare among 12 exchanges

If you’re expecting a low number of enrollees when the Department of Health and Human Services announces its first round of Obamacare registrant figures this week, here’s a sneak peek into what to expect.
Health-care consultant Avalere Health reported Monday that 3% of the expected 2014 enrollment figure was met as of last week, or 49,100 registrants out of 1.4 million, for 12 of the 15 exchanges available in 14 states and the District of Columbia. No figures were available for California, Massachusetts and Oregon and aren’t included in the totals. Also not included are figures from HealthCare.gov, the troubled online registration system for President Obama’s health-care overhaul in 36 states.
The exchanges for which data are available — Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington — showed weaker-than-expected enrollment since their debut Oct. 1, says Dan Mendelson, chief executive of Avalere.

Public Revolts Against Obama, Political Establishment’s Amnesty Efforts

According to new national polling data from Pew Research, the American people have revolted against President Barack Obama’s and the GOP establishment’s efforts to grant amnesty to America’s at least 11 million illegal immigrants through comprehensive immigration reform.
“Only about a third of the public (32%) approves of the job Obama is doing on immigration policy; 60% disapprove,” Pew wrote. “Obama’s ratings for this issue among Democrats are mixed: About half (53%) approve of his handling of the issue while 42% disapprove.”
Obama’s 60 percent disapproval rating on immigration from the American people is an all-time high for him on the issue and puts him on par with former President George W. Bush’s immigration polling numbers. Obama’s immigration disapproval rating has skyrocketed as he has ramped up his efforts to lobby Congress for the passage of an amnesty—particularly the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration bill.
As the American people have learned more and more about the Gang of Eight bill and the effects which amnesty and a drastic influx of millions of new workers would have on the hurting economy, they have grown more and more outraged with what Washington, D.C., is doing regarding immigration reform. In February—before Obama and lawmakers like Sens. John McCain (R-AZ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Chuck Schumer (D-NY), and DIck Durbin (D-IL) began their push for immigration reform—the President’s immigration policy approval rating among the American people, according to Pew, was higher than his disapproval rating. His approval rating on immigration then was 44 percent, whereas his disapproval rating was 43 percent.
Veterans Day in America is traditionally a time to look back, but the new generation of veterans wants to remind people the country also must look forward.
As they return home after more than a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan, younger veterans argue the holiday can’t just be about wreaths on gravestones at national cemeteries, parades or celebrations in the basement at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. They say Veterans Day must be not only about aged veterans in wheelchairs but about men and women in their 20s and 30s, some of whom returned from combat marked by deep wounds — many of which are invisible. We honor ALL veterans today and thank them for their service to our country. Somehow a ‘thank you’ appears to be very inadequate when one considers all the sacrifices made by our veterans and those service men and women who did not come home after service overseas. We grieve for them and for their families while remaining grateful for and to those who have returned home and contribute to our lives each and every day.
We do not take our veterans for granted, no, never. We honor them for their bravery, courage and integrity and yes we are grateful for them every day, but especially today November 11, 11:00 a.m. for at that very moment we must salute them!
Veterans Day, honors ALL American veterans, both living and dead. November 11 of each year is the day that we ensure veterans know that we deeply appreciate the sacrifices they have made in the lives to keep our country free.
To commemorate the ending of the “Great War” (World War I), an “unknown soldier” was buried in highest place of honor in both England and France ( (in England, Westminster Abbey; in France, the Arc de Triomphe). These ceremonies took place on November 11th, celebrating the ending of World War I hostilities at 11 a.m., November 11, 1918 (the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month). This day became known internationally as “Armistice Day”.
In 1921, the United States of America followed France and England by laying to rest the remains of a World War I American soldier — his name “known but to God” — on a Virginia hillside overlooking the city of Washington DC and the Potomac River. This site became known as the “Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,” and today is called the “Tomb of the Unknowns.” Located in Arlington National Cemetery, the tomb symbolizes dignity and reverence for the American veteran.
In America, November 11th officially became known as Armistice Day through an act of Congress in 1926. It wasn’t until 12 years later, through a similar act that Armistice Day became a national holiday.
The entire World thought that World War I was the “War to end all wars.” Had this been true, the holiday might still be called Armistice Day today. Blame game as insurers dump doctors

Let the blame game begin over ObamaCare’s oversights.
The nation’s largest health insurer, UnitedHealthcare, claims the Affordable Care Act is responsible for forcing it to boot doctors from its Medicare Advantage program that serves thousands of elderly patients in the New York metro region.
CEO Jack Larsen, under fire for separating seniors from their MDs, took out full-page ads to explain that cuts in Medicare spending forced the insurer’s hand.
“We are working to collaborate with a more focused network of physicians to help us provide higher quality and more affordable health care coverage to meet the needs of our members, and help them get more from their health plan benefits,” Larsen said.
“This work has become even more urgent in light of the severe funding reductions for Medicare Advantage plans that have come from Washington.”
