Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is still pursuing claims against the General Committee of Adjustment (GCA), the local union organization that orchestrated the illegal job action. A decision of the Federal Court last June found in favor of NJ TRANSIT and that the GCA violated the Railway Labor Act by instigating the “sick-out”. The Court’s order put in effect immediately following the job action remains in place and prohibits the local union from taking any such action in the future, including for this year’s Juneteenth holiday.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is launching a campaign entitled “Know Your ABCs,” which encourages customers to be familiar with their “alternates, backups and contingencies” should there be a disruption on their usual mode of travel. For example, if a customer normally takes the train from Penn Station New York to New Jersey, they are encouraged to also know which bus routes from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York could be an alternative to, or near, their home station.

Ridgewood NJ, NJ TRANSIT is utilizing June, designated as “National Safety Month” by the National Safety Council, to launch an educational campaign for customers and employees. This year’s theme is “Don’t Be Hasty, Observe Safety.” The month will feature tips and reminders to reinforce safety on and near the transit system throughout New Jersey. While the campaign will run during June, safety is a core value at NJ TRANSIT and it remains the highest priority throughout the year.

New York NY, commuting nightmare hits NY Penn Station on Thursday evenings rush hour when authorities temporarily suspended NJ Transit rail service to and from Penn Station in Manhattan, New York, New York, May 11 due to a signal issue at the Portal Bridge that spans the Hackensack River in Hudson County, New Jersey. Officials did not immediately provide an estimate as to when service would resume. NJ Transit authorities have said that NJ Transit rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ Transit buses and the Port Authority Trans-Hudson (PATH) transit system at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken, and 33rd Street, New York. Amtrak train services have also experienced delays due to “signal issues and rail congestion” in the New York metropolitan area.

Ridgewood NJ, The Federal Highway Administration approved the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s plan to add a controversial toll (congestion pricing) around Manhattan’s central business district. A group of Congress members from New Jersey both Democrats and Republicans – called on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to cancel the plan, saying that it will “impose significant new costs” on New Jersey commuters and families. The signees included Reps. Thomas Kean Jr., Frank Pallone Jr., Bill Pascrell Jr., Donald Payne Jr., Mikie Sherrill, Jeff Van Drew and Bonnie Watson Coleman.

Ridgewood NJ , the Ridgewood Crew team recently participated in the third of the 2023 Manny Flick / Horvat Series of rowing races before the annual regatta season begins. In the rowing world, the only regattas on the Schuylkill are the upcoming City Championships, the Catholic League Championships, and the Stotesbury Cup Regatta. To give the crews time to size up the competition beforehand, local teams came up with a series for the rowers at the “flicks” on the same racecourse. The “flicks” are named after Manuel A. Flick, a father who organized the first series in the 1950s. The one-day regatta attracted 81 clubs. Ridgewood Crew had 16 entries, more than any other participating club. Rescue Plan Mitigates Impacts for Overwhelming Majority of Weekday DeCamp Customers including Bergen County

NJ TRANSIT has announced an emergency bus service plan to provide as many alternate transit options for weekday DeCamp bus customers as possible. The plan includes extending four existing NJ TRANSIT bus routes that will accommodate approximately 85% of current weekday DeCamp customers. The remaining customers will largely be accommodated by leveraging existing bus, rail and light rail service, as well as local municipal bus shuttles in West Orange and Bloomfield. NJ TRANSIT is also launching a comprehensive informational campaign to assist DeCamp customers in identifying their available alternatives.

New York NY, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced the opening of the largest free, secure bicycle parking facility for public use in Manhattan as part of the agency’s commitment to enhance access across its facilities. The 20-bike secure bicycle parking enclosure outside the Midtown Bus Terminal offers innovative, secure bike storage options through an agency partnership with Brooklyn-based company Oonee, which maintains several bike parking pods in New York and New Jersey.
