Mahwah NJ, Recently, a group of Mahwah residents announced an initiative to recall Mayor Bill Laforet. The group now needs to acquire approximately 4,200 Mahwah resident signatures within 160 days in order to have the recall placed on the November election ballot. All petition signers must be registered voters and time is of the essence.
The Recall Committee seeks to end to the mayor’s “Incompetent management, poor judgement, abuse of power, lying and promoting divisiveness”. More information is available on their website at www.RecallMayorLaforet.com.
A previous effort to recall Mayor Bill Laforet in Mahwah, New Jersey, from his position was launched in March 2015.The recall did not go to a vote after supporters ended the recall attempt on August 3, 2015.Laforet is targeted for recall due to allegedly overstepping his authority by firing the town’s Public Works Director after pornography was found on the director’s computer. On May 13, 2015, supporters purported to have gathered “hundreds” of signatures.[4] Recall supporters ended the recall effort on August 3, 2015.
The Recall Group reached out to MahwahStrong seeking support for their initiative. Mahwah Strong is a group of local residents who have come together for the purpose of preserving the welcoming, inclusionary lifestyle of Mahwah Township.
The Board has concluded that the Mayor’s actions, statements and representation of our community have been largely inconsistent with the goals of MahwahStrong and contrary to the best interests of our Township and its taxpayers. His inability to coexist with the Town Council is disruptive and compromising important work and the future of our community.
The Board of MahwahStrong has determined that change is in order. It is our goal to reclaim Mahwah and remove what divides us. Accordingly, we are endorsing and lending the support of our organization to the recall effort.
Hackensack NJ , on January 17th Bergen County Superior Court Assignment Judge Bonnie Mizdol swore in Bergen County’s new Acting Prosecutor Dennis Calo. Prior to his appointment as Acting Prosecutor, Calo served as the First Assistant Prosecutor under Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal. Acting Prosecutor Calo spent the first 13 years of his legal career at the Bergen County Prosecutors Office .
Newark NJ, the U.S. Department of Justice says that it intends to retry Sen. Robert Menendez’s bribery case, which previously ended with a hung jury.
In a letter the DOJ wrote to the U.S. District Court of New Jersey, “The United States files this notice of intent to retry the defendants [Menendez and Dr. Salomon Melgen] and requests that the court set the case for retrial at the earliest possible date.”
Both Menendez and Melgen, a longtime friend of the senator, were on trial last year after being accused of running a bribery scheme between 2006 and 2013 in which Menendez allegedly lobbied government officials on Melgen’s behalf in exchange for luxury vacations and flights on Melgen’s private plane.
Menendez also was charged with making false statements on his Senate financial disclosure forms.
At that time jurors were unable to come to a unanimous verdict after about a week of deliberations.The judge then declared a mistrial.
Fair Lawn NJ, thankfully no injuries were reported following a Thursday morning, 01/18, four (4) vehicle, chain reaction crash on Saddle River Road near Naugle Drive in Fair Lawn. Glen Rock Police assisted Fair Lawn Police at the scene by providing traffic control assistance. One (1) vehicle, a 4-door passenger sedan, was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.
Hackensack NJ, Hackensack Police started of the New Year, with the same violations. More expired / fraudulent handicapped tags confiscated by the Traffic Bureau and Summonses issued! The Ridgewood blog reported in December of 2017 of the crack down . Following the first of the Hackensack Police picked right up where they left off.
Interestingly a Closter, N.J. resident reported to the Ridgewood Police headquarters on January 12, to report his vehicle was burglarized and an item was stolen from within. The victim reported the theft from the vehicle occurred between October 2017 and December 2017 while the vehicle was parked at 223 North Van Dien Avenue. The stolen item was reported to be a handicap placard.

Glen Rock NJ, A Glen Rock EMS ambulance transported one (1) victim to The Valley Hospital following a Wednesday afternoon, 01/17, two (2) vehicle collision at the intersection of Ackerman Avenue and Broad Street, Glen Rock. Injuries to the victim were said to be non life threatening in nature. A flatbed tow truck removed a wrecked 4-door Toyota Corolla from the scene. The other vehicle, a pick up truck, was able to be driven away on its own power. Glen Rock Police investigated the crash.

By any reasonable metric (per capita GDP, average longevity, infant mortality, hours per day the electricity is on, availability of clean water, basic human rights protections, percentage of GDP stolen by politicians, nutritional intake, average educational level, percentage of the country ruled by warlords or criminal gangs, etc. etc.), Haiti, Somalia and North Korea are “shitholes”. Shitholes are usually distinguished by comparing the number of people trying (or merely wishing) to get out of the country compared to the number trying to get in. If the former is above five figures or 30 percent and the latter is approaching zero, the country probably qualifies as a shithole. Usually, shitholes have reached their wretched state because of the culture and institutions (not the skin color, but nice try at attempting to inject the hackneyed Leftist racial angle) of the people who live in them. And be honest (if you’re capable), who would be more likely to have a positive contribution to the United States in terms of employability (aka “self-sufficiency”) and taxes paid vs. benefits consumed, someone from the countries listed above or someone from Norway (not exclusively, that was simply the leader Trump had just met with). Either way, this question is above Mayor Packer’s pay grade and he has absolutely nothing to say about who moves to Glen Rock. That is determined by the means of the person who rents or buys there, which usually excludes people who emigrate from shitholes. He should stick to his knitting and just make sure the potholes get filled in on time. As for you, if your bleeding heart keeps you up at night,, sponsor a family in a qualifying country (as I have for a family in Guatemala for 25+ years). But don’t ask the rest of us to do what you won’t just because your party’s policies always fail and you simply want to nullify our suffrage with the votes of the eternally-dependent.
Saddle Brook NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced the arrest of KRISTEN AQUINO (DOB: 8-23-1977; single; and self-employed) of Saddle Brook, New Jersey on a charge of Witness Tampering. The arrest came about as the result of a joint investigation conducted by members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, under the direction of Chief Robert Anzilotti and the Saddle Brook Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert Kugler.
On Monday, January 8, 2018, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office received information that two victims of a sexual assault investigation were being coerced to recant allegations previously made to law enforcement officers. As a result of the information received, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Saddle Brook Police Department initiated an investigation during which several individuals were interviewed regarding possible witness tampering.
As a result of the investigation, Kristen AQUINO was arrested and charged with one count of Witness Tampering, N.J.S.A. 2C:28-5a.(1), a 3rd degree crime. After being processed for arrest, AQUINO was released pending a first appearance at the Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.
Prosecutor Grewal states that this charge is merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and would like to thank the Saddle Brook Police Department for their assistance in this investigation.
Hackensack NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announces the expansion of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office’s (“BCPO”) Community Affairs Unit (“CAU”) and the designation of a new press contact. Prosecutor Grewal created the CAU in June 2017 with a mission to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community, increase public safety, and deter crime through developing programs that increase community engagement, build public trust, and promote transparency. These programs include a two-week Youth Police Academy which is run in cooperation with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, multi-disciplinary conferences, a quarterly Community/Clergy Academy, and partnerships with local and county law enforcement agencies and non-profit organizations. The CAU also supports and promotes local law enforcement community programs, education initiatives, and day-to-day operations through social media and public promotion.
This model has proven successful, and the BCPO is committed to prioritizing positive relations between law enforcement and the community. Under the direction of Assistant Prosecutor (“AP”) Section Chief Elizabeth Rebein and Lieutenant Jeff Angermeyer, six administrative, creative, and Detective personnel have been assigned to staff the Unit. Along with the expansion of the Unit, Prosecutor Grewal has restructured certain duties, including AP Rebein as the point of contact for all media inquiries.
The BCPO’s community initiatives and programs will appear on the BCPO social media accounts, namely Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram under the username @BCPONJ. Additionally, many events will be live-streamed using these social media platforms to broadcast segments online, as they happen, where they happen.
Ridgewood NJ, The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today presented Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G), New Jersey’s largest utility, with the association’s “Emergency Assistance Award” for outstanding work assisting customers impacted by Hurricane Irma in September 2017.
The award is presented to EEI member companies to recognize an outstanding response in assisting other electric companies in power restoration efforts after service has been disrupted by severe weather conditions or other natural events. The winners were chosen by a panel of judges following an international nomination process, and the awards were presented during EEI’s Winter Board and CEO Meeting in Scottsdale, Ariz.
In the wake of Irma, PSE&G dispatched 154 employees and 84 vehicles to assist Florida Power & Light power restoration efforts. The PSE&G contingent included line workers, managers, engineers and support personnel.
“When disaster impacts a region, electric companies from across the nation are called on to assist impacted companies in need – mutual assistance is a hallmark of our industry,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “When Hurricane Irma struck, PSE&G answered the call to help. PSE&G’s assistance to restore service to impacted customers is a terrific example of mutual assistance in action.”
PSE&G’s Senior Vice President of Electric and Gas Operations John Latka said, “We were fortunate to be in a position to assist FPL. We know the importance of getting the lights and power back on as quickly as possible so people can begin the process of rebuilding their lives.”

To those who say it is not necessary, because we obviously welcome everyone, I would suggest that you probably would have said the same thing about our country. The law suit alleges the famed “double dipper” and “party changer” Bergen County Sheriff Michael Saudino retaliated against Frank Carrafiello and other officers who investigated the soil remediation project. The suit names not only Saudino, but the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office , the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bergen county government .
The suit claims that Sheriff Saudino demoted officers, forced others to retire and changed the assignments of those officers who investigated the remediation.
The New Jersey Sierra Club and Mahwah officials outlined the contamination at the Bergen County Law and Public Safety Institute. They also said the county allegedly announced lead bullet casing and other potentially toxic materials to be dumped on the site for about a year.
Jeff Tittel, executive director of the Sierra Club, said the materials oxidized and broke down, possibly seeping into the groundwater and nearby streams, the Ramapo River and the Ramapo Aquifer, which provides drinking water to thousands of people.
A Bergen County spokeswoman claims in April that County Executive James Tedesco’s administration “took swift and immediate action upon learning of the potential environmental issue at the Law and Public Safety Institute shooting range located in Mahwah.”
