“Put the Phone Away or Pay,” Enforcement Effort to Reduce Distracted Driving in Bergen County

Franklin Lakes NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Division of Highway Traffic Safety (HTS) today announced the launch of a high visibility enforcement effort to reduce distracted driving. The campaign, known as “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” runs from April 1 through April 30, and provides funding for law enforcement agencies throughout the state to bolster enforcement of laws prohibiting texting and other forms of distracted driving. In addition to these enforcement efforts, HTS has launched a public awareness campaign to educate drivers about the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.

Fort Lee NJ, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrests and indictments of 25-year-old RAEKWON KING of the Bronx, NY; and 22-year-old KARNEL MILLER-WRIGHT of the Bronx, NY, on charges stemming from a pattern of multi-jurisdictional armed robberies. The arrests and indictments are the result of months-long investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, and with the coordination and assistance of several local police departments from across Bergen County.

Suspended Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Lieutenant Indicted For Removing and Tampering with Drug Evidence

Hackensack NJ, Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin and the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) today announced a state grand jury has indicted a suspended Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office (BCPO) lieutenant after he allegedly removed and tampered with drug evidence, including cocaine and fentanyl, on multiple occasions. The defendant was also charged with financial facilitation of criminal activity, structuring financial transactions, and filing fraudulent tax returns in connection with his making approximately $600,000 in cash deposits into bank accounts he controlled.

GAWTHNEY, 27; and DELAREESE DELGADO, 31, all of whom reside in Paterson, NJ, on various charges stemming from an organized theft scheme.
