Newark NJ, Multiple major US airlines announced yesterday that passengers will be required to wear face masks onboard commercial aircraft starting in May. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not mandated mask use for airline passengers or crew, but the airlines themselves made the determination in response to pressure from employees and unions. Several airlines had previously announced face mask policies, but American, Delta, and United Airlines all announced policies yesterday. These represent 3 of the 4 largest airlines in the United States; the second-largest airline, Southwest Airlines, has reportedly not yet announced a mandatory mask use policy.

Ridgewood NJ, A promising drug called remdesivir may shorten hospital stays for patients with COVID-19 and perhaps speed their recoveries while diminishing the odds of death, according to Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who on Wednesday described federal next steps based on the new, positive study.

Washington DC, Federal authorities announced today that an ongoing cooperative effort between law enforcement and a number of private-sector companies, including multiple internet domain providers and registrars, has disrupted hundreds of internet domains used to exploit the COVID-19 pandemic to commit fraud and other crimes.

Hirsh Singh: “Open Up The New Jersey Economy”

LINWOOD NJ, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate Hirsh Singh called for the calibrated reopening of the New Jersey economy and ending the lockdown of the state. While speaking to his supporters, Singh presented his plan that would not only open up the economy, but also help contain the spread of COVID-19.

According to Singh’s plan, we should continue all efforts to contain and control the virus in the areas that have been hit the hardest, but in areas where we have healthy low-risk individuals able to work and which have not been as seriously hit as the areas adjoining New York City, we must immediately start reopening for humanitarian, constitutional, and economic reasons even as we put social distancing norms into place and maintain such norms.

Ridgewood NJ, The two flyovers by the Thunderbirds and Blue Angles will begin around noon Tuesday (04/28/2020). The Blue Angels and Thunderbirds have announced flight plans over New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia to salute first responders and hospital workers working on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak. The flyovers will take place April 28.

NJ Turnpike and Garden State Parkway Toll Hikes Move Forward Dispute National Pandemic

Trenton NJ, The New Jersey Turnpike is set to increase tolls by 36 percent, and drivers can expect to pay 27 percent more on the Garden State Parkway.

The toll hikes are moving forward despite the lack of required public hearings due to the coronavirus crisis, and Senator Declan O’Scanlon called the maneuver “an outrageous slap in the face to the spirit of public hearing laws.

Voorhees NJ, Two patients at Virtua Voorhees Hospital are steadily recuperating from critical cases of COVID-19 after receiving convalescent plasma transfusions in the first week of April. The pair – a 61-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman – are expected to return home to their families in May. They are the first two New Jersey residents to receive the ground-breaking plasma therapy.

Hackensack NJ, On Saturday morning, the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office sanitized the personal vehicles of over fifty healthcare workers from Hackensack University Medical Center in conjunction with Einstein Mobile Detailing Services of Lodi. The event took place from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Alfred N. Sanzari Building on Essex Street in Hackensack.
