Hackensack NJ, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it is adding 12 sites and proposing to add another five, including the Lower Hackensack River, to the Superfund National Priorities List (NPL). The federal NPL includes sites where releases of contamination pose significant human health and environmental risks.

Hackensack NJ, students were sent back to class at Hackensack High School after being evacuated Friday morning. The school was evacuated due to a police investigation, the district and police announced.

Hackensack NJ, Anna Sorokin, who was convicted on fraud charges for posing as heiress Anna Delvey, was released from prison in February 2021 but taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody on a detainer six weeks later. Sorokin is now 31 and remains in ICE custody while she waits to see whether she will be deported to Germany.

Hackensack NJ, City of Hackensack Fire Department 3rd platoon responded to several cars on fire on Arcadia Road due to a power line down. Fire Companies had to wait for the arrival of PSEG to secure power before extinguishing the cars on fire. No damage reported to any buildings. Time of incident 1:15 am on Thursday the 18th with no reported injuries.

Hackensack NJ, on Saturday January 22 , Hackensack Fire Department had all hands operating in the area of 2nd and Atlantic Street for a major gas leak. PSE&G was also on scene trying to find the source. Multiple buildings being checked for gas odor. The fire department received the all clear while PSEG continued it’s investigation . No injuries were reported .
Hackensack NJ, On Tuesday, January 18th at 1928 hours Hackensack Fire Department headquarters received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 27 Franklin Street. Upon arrival Deputy 1 had heavy fire in two wood frame dwellings and transmitted a 2nd alarm. Upon arrival, companies put multiple hand lines into service knocking down fire in both 1st and 2nd floors of both dwellings. Fire extended into the attic of both dwellings. Ladder companies from Hackensack and Englewood ventilated the roof of both dwellings , assisted with searches and opening up in both dwellings.

Hackensack NJ, Hackensack Fire fighters ended the year by logging in a busy month December 30th , 350 prospect avenue 2nd alarm fire. Fire was on the number 5 floor. Fire was knocked down by Engine 2. All searches are negative. Englewood and Teaneck fire departments assisted at the scene along with Hackensack UMC BLS . No reported injuries. Fire is currently under investigation.
