Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools to extricate the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder that was involved in a two (2) vehicle collision on Route 208 northbound near Utter Avenue on Saturday afternoon, 10/07. Following the successful extrication, the victim was transported by a Hawthorne EMS ambulance to a local hospital. Multiple individuals in the other vehicle involved complained of back pain and were also transported to a hospital for treatment. Hawthorne Police investigated the crash.

Hawthorne NJ, with a Flood Watch in effect scattered instances of Flash flooding were reported all over North Jersey. Rising flood waters trapped two (2) occupants of a partially submerged white colored SUV that was driving in an alleyway behind 85 Wagaraw Road, Hawthorne on Friday morning, 09/29. A high water rescue vehicle owned by the County of Bergen Office of Emergency Management, and staffed by Wyckoff firefighters, was used to remove both individuals from the vehicle and transport them to waiting ambulances. Neither of the occupants was injured; their vehicle remained partially submerged and would likely not be removed until waters receded.

Hawthorne NJ, on Tuesday afternoon there was a partial collapse of a parapet wall at Hawthorne High School. No injuries have been reported and we don’t have information as to the cause but Fire crews were on scene securing the site.
Three (3) parked vehicles were damaged when portions of a west facing wall of Hawthorne High School collapsed and fell to a nearby sidewalk and roadway late Tuesday afternoon, 09/12. Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap; students had already been dismissed for the day and the affected portions of the building were unoccupied. Hawthorne firefighters used a gas powered saw and hand tools to remove several remaining of the wall that were identified as being unstable. School will resume as scheduled on Wednesday, 09/13. However, several top floor classrooms may be cordoned off for safety reasons. Hawthorne Police, the Hawthorne Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and Hawthorne EMS also responded to the incident.

Knepper announced that criminal charges have been filed against Juan Martinez Gonzalez of Hawthorne, New Jersey for his involvement in a hit-and-run crash that occurred in the evening hours on June 28, 2023, in the area of Wagaraw Road and Passaic Street in Hawthorne, New Jersey. Juan Martinez Gonzalez is charged with Second-Degree Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death of Another; Third-Degree Causing Death or Injury While Unlicensed; Third-Degree Endangering an Injured Victim; and Fourth-Degree Driving While Suspended.

Hawthorne NJ, vehicular traffic on Route 208 northbound through Hawthorne was temporarily halted by flooding from a Sunday afternoon, 06/25, thunderstorm. Members of Hawthorne Fire Company #1 and Hawthorne OEM personnel worked to clear clogged storm drains near Ethel Avenue, Hawthorne in order that the highway could be safely reopened.

Hawthorne NJ, at 1:43pm the Hawthorne Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Sunrise Dr on a reported house fire. Upon the arrival of the Hawthorne Fire Department and Fire Chief Speranza the members were advised this was a confirmed working fire. As the Chief Speranza evaluated the conditions of home during his 360 he was advised of an occupant being trapped in the home and transmitted a 2nd alarm.

Hawthorne NJ, a Mercedes Benz SUV crashed into a condominium complex’s swimming pool cabana on Morningstar Road in Hawthorne on Wednesday morning, 05/10, causing significant exterior and interior damage to the structure. No injuries were reported in the mishap, which occurred when the vehicle’s driver started the car in a nearby parking space, and put it in gear. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Department responded to the incident. The Mercedes was removed from the scene by a flatbed tow truck.

Hawthorne NJ, high winds damaged the roof of a commercial building located at 7 Ethel Avenue, Hawthorne late Friday afternoon, 02/03. Parts of the roof were blown off into an adjacent parking lot. A box truck parked in the lot sustained minor damage when it was struck by falling debris. Hawthorne firefighters conducted an interior and exterior inspection of the building, and also secured all loose roofing material that was left topside. No injuries were reported in the incident. The building was determined to be structurally sound and remained habitable.

It also explores the hunt for the perpetrators by a group of dedicated FBI agents, and the inexplicable escape from prison by Willie Morales, the FALN’s chief bombmaker who eventually received asylum in Cuba, where he lives to this day. Finally, the film exposes the political maneuvering that led to Presidents Clinton and Obama granting clemency to FALN members through their attorney, Eric Holder, and the emotional damage it caused to the families of the victims.

Hawthorne NJ, a multi-vehicle, Wednesday morning, 01/11, collision in the 400 block of Lincoln Avenue, Hawthorne necessitated a response by two (2) flatbed tow trucks to remove an SUV and work van involved in the incident. No injuries were reported in the mishap. Hawthorne Police was assisted by Glen Rock Police with traffic control.

Hawthorne NJ, three (3) individuals were hospitalized following a two (2) vehicle, early Wednesday morning, 10/19, collision at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Loretto Avenue, on the border of Fair Lawn and Hawthorne. One (1) of the vehicles involved was propelled into the front façade of a nearby Hawthorne restaurant, which was, fortunately, unoccupied at the time. Both heavily damaged vehicles were towed from the scene.

Hawthorne NJ, one (1) person required ambulance transportation to a local hospital following a two (2) vehicle, Sunday afternoon, 09/11, crash in the 500 block of Goffle Hill Road, Hawthorne. The crash resulted in a considerable gasoline and motor oil spill, which required the complete shut down of Goffle Hill Road in the area of Sicomac Avenue. Firefighters from Hawthorne Fire Department deployed a significant quantity of absorbent material on the roadway in an attempt to mitigate the situation. Hawthorne Fire Chief Joseph Speranza also directed his firefighters to take specific actions aimed at protecting a nearby storm water drainage system from contamination. The individual transported by Hawthorne EMS sustained a non-life threatening crash injury. Hawthorne Police conducted the crash investigation and collected that information necessary to process a crash report.

Hawthorne NJ, Route 208 southbound at Grandview Avenue in Hawthorne/Wyckoff was blocked by emergency vehicles for several hours on Labor Day, 09/05, due to a fatal motor vehicle accident. An accident in which a fast moving 4-door sedan careened off of the highway upward, and crashed into a heavily wooded area. One (1) of the vehicle’s occupants was pronounced dead at the scene; the other was transported to a local hospital by the Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne Fire Department personnel and equipment also responded to aid the victims. Glen Rock Fire Department, and Wyckoff Fire Department were also called to the scene for assistance. Wyckoff Police helped with traffic control. Passaic County Sheriff’s Office units and the Northern Regional Medical Examiners office’s office responded as well.
