4 family Members Screened for Coronavirus after Cruise Ship Docks in Bayonne

Bayonne NJ, port of call Bayonne, four of the 27 Royal Caribbean passengers screened for coronavirus after the cruise ship docked in Bayonne on Friday morning were sent to hospitals for further evaluation, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said.

The other 23 were cleared and permitted to disembark from the Anthem of the Seas along with the ship’s other passengers, who said they were unaware of the coronavirus concerns until being alerted by news reports.

In a statement Governor Murphy said ,  “Personnel from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention boarded a cruise ship docked in Bayonne this morning and screened 27 passengers who recently traveled from mainland China. After being assessed by the CDC, 23 of those passengers were cleared and four individuals are being evaluated at an area hospital. The hospital is following proper infection control protocols while evaluating these individuals. Van Burst into Flames after Striking Utility Pole in Hawthorne

Hawthorne NJ, Hawthorne Police, Hawthorne Fire, and Hawthorne EMS responded to aid the victim of a Friday morning, 01/24 motor vehicle crash with fire in the 200 block of Hutchinson Avenue, Hawthorne. A paramedic team from The Valley Hospital also responded to the incident. The exterior of a home located nearby sustained light damage as a result of heat & smoke emanating from the fire. Witnesses reported that the SUV struck a utility pole before bursting into flames.

2nd Middlesex County Water Inspector Arrested for Submitting false water samples for testing

South River NJ,  Attorney General Gurbir S. Grewal announced that the former licensed operator of the South River Water Department, the public drinking water system for South River Borough in Middlesex County, pleaded guilty today to submitting false water samples and records to a lab that tests such samples for coliform bacteria for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

Robert Baker, 57, of Mine Hill, N.J., pleaded guilty today to a violation of the Safe Drinking Water Act, a third-degree crime, before Superior Court Judge Benjamin S. Bucca Jr. in Middlesex County. Under the plea agreement, the state will recommend that Baker be sentenced to 364 days in the county jail and a term of probation. Baker was suspended from his position after he was charged, and he later resigned. He is permanently barred from public employment in New Jersey. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 24, but Baker was immediately remanded to custody today to begin serving time in the county jail.

Two Indicted For $30 Million Dollar Fraud Scheme Involving Blockchain Technology Company

Bloomfield NJ,an Essex County, New Jersey, woman and a Canadian man were indicted today for their roles in a securities fraud scheme that induced victims to invest $30 million worth of cash and cryptocurrency based on fraudulent misrepresentations, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Edith Pardo, 68, of Bloomfield, New Jersey, and Boaz Manor, 46, of Toronto, Canada, are each charged with one count of conspiring to commit wire fraud, three counts of wire fraud, and one count of securities fraud in connection with a blockchain technology company. Pardo was arrested today by special agents of the FBI and is scheduled to appear this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven C. Mannion in Newark federal court. Manor remains at large.

Woodland Park NJ,  A Passaic County, New Jersey, man was sentenced today to 60 months in prison for leading a conspiracy involving numerous moving companies that systematically extorted hundreds of customers, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Richard Bishara, 43, of Woodland Park, New Jersey, previously pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Susan D. Wigenton to an information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Judge Wigenton imposed the sentence today in Newark federal court.

Paterson NJ. A sergeant with the Paterson Police Department was arrested today and charged with conspiring to violate the civil rights of an individual in Paterson and with falsifying a corresponding police report, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.

Police Officer Michael Cheff, 49, of Paterson, was arrested by the FBI this morning and charged by complaint with conspiring to deprive an individual of civil rights under color of law and with falsifying a police report. Cheff is scheduled to have his initial appearance this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre in Newark federal court.

Sudhan M. Thomas, 44, of Jersey City, New Jersey, is charged by complaint with embezzling funds from an organization receiving federal funds. Thomas is expected to make his initial appearance on Jan. 9, 2020, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leda Dunn Wettre in Newark federal court.

Hawthorne NJ, A three (3) vehicle crash on Route 208 southbound near Lincoln Avenue in Hawthorne caused extensive delays in both directions of Route 208 late Monday afternoon, 01/06. Two (2) ambulances were required to transport injured vehicle occupants from the scene to local hospitals. All three (3) vehicles involved were removed from the highway by tow trucks. Traffic in the area had been slowed prior to the accident because Glen Rock Police was investigating a disturbance on a school bus parked on the southbound shoulder of the highway, just south of Lincoln Avenue. Hawthorne Police and Hawthorne EMS responded to the handle the crash.
